Hello gents,
First post and I plan on staying here for a while. Just got into warhammer with my brother and cousin for some fun gamming experiences to keep us off our phones!!
I'd like you to review my army list and give me some tips on what I could do to improve them.
Mostly I'm thinking about scrapping the lone wolf and possible ulrik. The * means I need to buy lol
Wasted some money on terminators, 2 dreads, and scouts already.
My opponents are "Skitarii + Vindicare assassin" or "Ultra Marines" as of now
Here it is list #1

Is a drop pod considered a fast attack choice?
Also if it is can't I use drop pods as dedicated transport for grey hunters and not take up a slot? I'm at work and don't have my codex on me.
What do you think about the LONE WOLF and Ulrik? Are they worth their points or should I get something else?
Thanks for the help I appreciate it!

Drop Pods are dedicated transports.
Ulrik I think is worthwhile. Lone Wolves I'm not a great fan of since they got nerfed in the "new" codex.

I believe I have the latest codex for space wolves and it does have the lone wolf option in there. Was there some supplemental rules released after the hard copy? Thanks again! Automatically Appended Next Post: pm713 wrote:Stemocon wrote:pm713 wrote:Stemocon wrote:

I would take two of the drop pods as dedicated transports for two of your grey hunters. Then add a third drop pod to your fast attack option. You can still use it to take an objective later. Doing this allows the two drop pods to enter your turn one because of the drop pod assault special rule.
You'll have all your troops on the table turn one and if you do it right, some nice line of sight blockage for your Thunderwolves.
Outside of that the only other thing I would suggest is dropping the missile count on the long fangs to 1 or two and running additional las cannons. You'll get better use from them at range than you will the missile.
As for supplements for the Space Wolves since the latest codex you'll find Champions of Fenris and Curse of the Wulfen. Both of which have some interesting formations.
Looks good though and happy hunting

Thanks man that's the kind of critique I'm looking for. I've had great success with Las cannons in the past and was tempted to adding another. An extra drop pod is a great idea! I'll take those points from the Lone wolf since I don't imagine him doing much more then soaking up hits and wounds.

Make the third drop pod a dedicated transport for a grey hunter squad. You still benefit like it's from FA but it has Objective Secured which is good if you land it on an objective.
When I said "new codex" I was referring to the current one.

ThunderWolf Calvary x3 - 1x ThunderHammer 1x PowerFist 1x Claw 3x StormShield - 240pts
*Drop pods x2 - 70pts
Total - 1500pts
Once you dedicate the drop pods to the Grey Hunters you've got all the required units to take the Wolves Unleashed detachment which would give you Objective Secured like a CAD but will also give you the ability to re-roll for your warlord trait and choose a single unit every turn to arrive with no need for a dice roll, it will also grant you access to the Relics of the Fang.
As for your list I think you've gone a bit overboard with vehicle destruction as a goal.
I'd keep the Lone Wolf but drop the Thunder Hammer from him, he simply does not move fast enough to merit such a big points dump on offence alone, drop him back to base cost give him Terminator Armour, free storm shield and storm bolter, add melta bombs if you still want to threaten vehicles with him.
Lone Wolf (20)
Storm Shield (15)
Thunderhammer (30)
65
Lone Wolf (20)
Terminator Armour/Storm Bolter (30)
Storm Shield (-)
Melta Bombs (5)
(55)
For ten points less he's rocking 2+ and 3++ saves, vehicle threatening ability, will put your Terminator Armour to good use and will draw a bit of fire away from your Thunderwolf Cavalry or ruin any vehicle it comes in contact with.
I'd also dump either the Thunder Hammers or the Power Fists from the Thunderwolf Cavalry, personally I'd drop the Hammers and have a single non pack leader Thunderwolf with the Power Fist and Wolf Claw, give the other two Storm Shields and Bolt Pistols, use the points from there to get your third Drop Pod.
Good luck.

There's so much wrong there.
First taking the Wolves Unleashed over a CAD removes Objective Secured and you can reroll the warlord trait anyway. Taking Wolves Unleashed is a bad idea here because there's so little benefit.
Second you have access to Space Wolf relics anyway.
Third I don't see how the Drop Pod allocation allows the change from a CAD to Wolves Unleashed.
Fourth if you give Storm Shields to TWC you may as well give them Bolters as you'll get more shots off from a distance than the one shot up close or at worse get the same amount and better Overwatch to boot but the pistol gives no benefit over a bolter.

That's no huge loss, being able to bring the third drop pod in on command would have been nice but oh well.
It wasn't a matter of taking them as The Wolves Unleashed over CAD it was a matter of taking them in a detachment over an unbound army, CAD still only has a maximum of three fast attack slots so if he wants the third pod taking them as Dedicated Transports for Grey Hunters means they're actually classified as 'Troops' so not only do they not take up a fast attack slot as part of the CAD they have Objective Secured granted in their battlefield role 'Troops' which means that they have to be dealt with when you drop them on an objective.
As for the Bolter/Bolt Pistol assessment there is a gaming team in my area TFGs and their pet judge who happens to be rather anti-melee and since the rapid fire rules mention nothing of a choice in shooting modes he forces the rule that they 'must' use the rapid fire mode under 12' and 'must' use the ranged shot at longer ranges and when you rapid fire, you can't charge. Better Space Marine players than me have stepped up against this guy and lost, the FLGS takes his side because his team makes up nearly fifty percent of the local tournament and spends pretty big on the day to boot, rather than bothering with an argument I know I'll lose my Grey Hunters declare Bolt Pistols before charging and if there is a choice like there is in TWC I take Bolt Pistols over Bolters, yes I lose the range and the Rapid Fire overwatch but it's not often my Wolves are overwatching or doing more shooting than the volley just before they charge anyway, even TFJudge can't force rapid fire from a weapon that doesn't have it.

You weren't talking about stopping Unbound because we'd already established how to make it into a CAD and that's with the questionable reading it was Unbound in the first place.
That's not a TFG interpretation or anything. You DO have to rapid fire but that's not what I said. You'll get one shot at 12"+ which you will take. Then you'll be charging. You have the same shots but better Overwatch and no close combat attacks decrease because the TWC has a Storm Shield.

Very interesting guys! I love the feed back. Right now the most confusing part for me is "detachments" is there somewhere I can go to get a list of detachments that explain how to apply them for space wolves?
Again thanks! This helps a lot!

Basic Rulebook
Codex: Space Wolves
Champions of Fenris
War Zone Fenris: Curse of the Wulfen
Those contain detachments and formations Space Wolves can use. You have to look out for choices formations can make, which are not necessarily detachments, like Fangs of the Tempest in Curse of the Wulfen. You can not take those as formations or detachment.
When an entry begins with "Formation" you can use it as such. Detachment are specialized Force organization charts like the Combined Arms Detachment but usually with a twist. You can use them similar to formations. Mix and match them how you please.
