Yes, finally got my Generals Handbook. Thanks to early shipping in the mail. Sadly, I have nobody to play with. Here is hoping people in the 40K group will maybe change their minds now.
OH well. The one time I actually get something early from GW and not having to wait for it to come in the mail I really can't use it now.
Now I can read the book at least and sort of know what you guys have been talking about since you a lot of you already saw the book and I had no clue what you were talking about.

It's a beautiful book. I will have mine on Monday but have read the local store copy quite extensively now. Cannot wait to really sink my teeth into the narrative and open sections too.
|
Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

What should I be concentrating on in trying to make a game with my daughter? She has disabilities so can't read or write so I need to make it as simple as possible for her. Hell I need to make it as simple as possible as me. Would appreciate any help you can offer.

I would stick with Open Play and I would probably go for the Storm of Chaos mini starter. The small number of models is much more manageable, both from a gameplay but also painting perspective. Lastly the Warscroll cards will make really good visual clues. Picking up some plastic counters like the Litko ones would also be a great way of helping her identify the complex buffs and debuffs in AoS as visual aids.
I would start off with incredibly small games and even consider using the AoS rules alongside something she is more familiar with, like Lego, first.

What is Storm of Chaos minis starter? Is that minis only or hs rules and scenarios as well? Is that the thing that is coming out in a few weeks?
I bought her the Stormcast with wings and the eagle/bird since she wanted that. Even bought a starter set again so she can play with Stormcasts since I lost the first one I bought on day one. Now I found it, and have 2 box sets LOL. I think I have enough for her for now.
Now she is happy to have 2 dracoths (spelling). She beat me already once, but I screwed up the rules but she had fun non the less.
I don't want to learn the rules in the starter set if the Generals Handbook changes them drastically otherwise I will just confuse myself when everyone chats here. That is why I asked.

I just got some of my 40k friends into AoS. He bought the start collecting box from the seraphon.
I just played the game with him and he found the game (even at very low point costs) to be quite enjoyable still because it suffers a lot less from 40k's typical "rock-paper-scissor" playstyle which makes it fail at lower points.
So he's slowly building his force now. He was also happy that he could field big monsters without it getting insanely OP in 1000p games (unlike wraithknights for instance).
Ofc, it helps that i have 2 armies to play with to show people that.

The only change of rules is for tournaments and "serious" games, so don't worry about it too much!
