So I was originally supposed to already be in the hobby a month or two ago but my friend who plays kinda quit and after getting me hyped left me with no real way to learn besides showing up and asking random strangers... So why do that when I found a forum I can do it anonymously on!? Lol.
So yes, my introduction is that I am an ultra geek with nothing short but excitement and interest in the hobby! I have plans to do both 40k and fantasy though I have no grasp on eithers rules or an actual clue which army I want to play.
With 40k I'm leaning Tyranids and Necron but I'm unsure how newbie friendly they are.
And then for Fantasy I'm peeking Skaven but same problem as before with no idea how easy they are to get into, but I'm very open to any of the Fantasy armies

Welcome to the hobby! I don't play 40k anymore, but I reckon Necrons and Tyranids are fairly straightforward to play; a good starting point however would be to visit one of your local clubs and see if they have something like the Dark Vengeance set that you can try out with someone there, so you can get a basic grasp of the rules Sometimes people are nice enough to lend their armies to you for a game or two, but no promises on that one! Don't worry either way - the Dakka community is always on hand to help anyone with questions of any kind And yes, red text gets read fasta! Happy Hunting! G.A

XD I wish I could just pick an army. For Fantasy I'm in love with all the undead or monster like races.

As I genuine word of advice, never use red. It is a color reserved for the Mods and the Admins.

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

Who said you can't pick whatever you choose? Some armies may be better than others on the tabletop, but don't let that determine what you collect.
And if you mean that you're confused about what to pick, just follow your gut based on how cool the models look to you and what you'd like to collect
Hope that helps
And yeah don't use red unless you're doing a tutorial warning or something along those lines

More I just can't decide which ones I like that are also pretty good for a new player to get into. Like I don't want a rules and mechanics intense army as my first one

In that case just don't pick Daemons. They have things to roll every turn, rewards and all sorts of things to micro manage.
Dark Eldar are also complex, and made of glass.
If you like the look of an army, go for it. You will learn.

I'm no expert on AoS, but there are only a few armies across both universes that need some more in depth thinking to play; most of them have a pretty low skill ceiling thanks to all the dice rolls that go on in the game.
Still, I'd post the question in the AoS General Discussion forum and see what other people say - they should be able to help you out
