Changing Our Legion's Name
|
Was just playing around with some ideas for lists (got the updated books) to see what I can come up with.
HQ
- Typhon - the Reaping
- Deathshroud retinue (x4), Land Raider Phobos w/ frag launchers
- Centurion Siege breaker - artificer armor, scythe
Elites
- Apothecarion detachment (x2)
- Quad mortar (x1) - shatter shell, phosphex shells
- Quad mortar (x1) - shatter shell, phosphex shells
Troops
- Tacticals (x15) - combat blades, nuncio vox, sgt with rad grenades, artificer armor, and scythe
- Tacticals (x15) - combat blades, nuncio vox, sgt with rad grenades, artificer armor, and scythe
- Heavy Support (x5) - missile launchers
- Veteran tactical squad (x5) - Marksmen, Flamer w/ chem, artificer armor and scythe on sgt, Rhino
Fast Attack
- Primaris Lightning - phosphex cluster, EMP bombs, 2x krakens
Heavy
-Grave wardens (x5) - 2x chainfists
-Medusa - phosphex shells
-Vindicator - laser destroyer array
First, not sure if this is too much phosphex for one list, but I AM playing DG..
The idea would be to slog the tacticals up the field (an apothecary with each) along with the grave wardens. Camp the missile launchers with the siege breaker and harass armor. Quad mortars either dole out phosphex or S8 depending on how well the missile launchers or vindicator do (keeping them separate here so I can fire different shells if need be). Medusa lobs phosphex or S10 as needed. Drive Typhon up the field with Land Raider and go elite hunting. Veterans outflank with a rending (essentially) shredding flamer coming out of the top of the rhino, disembarking for rapid firing sniper bolter action. Primaris comes on turn 2 to hunt where he's needed most.
I still haven't played a game of HH yet, as the only other HH players in my locality are both building their armies still, so I don't know relative efficacy well. I could definitely have more terminators in there, but I currently don't have more.
What do you guys think?

1) The medusa is an either/or, not both when it comes to regular or phosphex rounds. (Unless they changed that)
2) Seems pretty fun, though If I had to make a change: Ditch the Vindicator, and swap to creeping death. You're list doesn't really make the most of the rad grenades, and a base 5+ cover save would be a better help with this kind of list. with those spare points, assuming you have the models, another 2 rapiers with shatter shells (phosphex if you want some cheesy fun ) would be more entertaining AT than the vindi w/ laser destroyer array IMO.

Damn, you're totally right, I didn't notice that it was "exchange" the shells.
I'm a little hesitant to take too many quad mortars, for fear of being TFG. I only have the two at the moment, though I guess 4 is a good number to have without being overkill. I liked the vindicator for fluff reasons, and the overcharged mode shooting 3x twin linked S9 AP1 ordinance seems like a jolly good time. What is your experience with vindis? Do you use any?
Creeping death does sound fun. Here's a revised list based on your suggestions:
HQ
- Typhon - Creeping Death
- Deathshroud retinue (x4), Land Raider Phobos w/ frag launchers
- Centurion Siege breaker - artificer armor, scythe
Elites
- Apothecarion detachment (x2)
- Quad mortar (x2) - shatter shell, phosphex shells
- Quad mortar (x2) - shatter shells

Troops
- Tacticals (x15) - combat blades, nuncio vox, sgt with artificer armor and scythe

Fast Attack
- Primaris Lightning - phosphex cluster, EMP bombs, 2x krakens
Heavy
-Grave wardens (x5) - 2x chainfists
-Medusa - phosphex shells
-Heavy Support (x5) - missile launchers

I love vindicators (I have 3 )
some general list things to keep in mind as you go:
1) It's almost always better to take extra CCWs rather than swap the bolters for them
2) The scythe is nice, though I wouldn't count it as an auto-take (as they are limited in the fluff + not always needed, like on your siege breaker, who 'should' be standing back with the missile launchers)
3) I almost always give my apothecaries augury scanners (5 points for DS protection is really nice )
4) As DG really consider bumping those tac squads up to 20-men, and maybe swapping out that vet. squad for a flamer squad with extra CCWs (as that is just the BEST kind of silly and fluffy)

Oh, yeah, I meant for the combat blades on the tacticals to be extra.
As for the scythes, good point, maybe taking them off the Sgts is a good idea. I liked it on the Siege Breaker for a last line of defense when they likely get charged by any DS units that made it back, but maybe I should just run him stock.
I'll definitely shell out the augury scanners! I wasn't sure how prevalent DS is in 30k, it seems a lot less common than in 40k, though maybe that increases the likelihood of someone using it to great effect?
I actually have a 5 man flamer tactical support squad modeled already, but I liked the vets because an outflanking rhino seemed like it actually had a chance - with 30k, rhinos seem to be like paper cups running up the field. How do you usually run your tactical support squads? I guess with the 5+ cover save in the open with creeping death it makes it more survivable.
I was considering swapping the scythe on my praetor for a paragon blade, because paragon blades are retardedly good, though not sure how well it jives with DG..
