I'm trying to build an Eldar list to face an opponent who has put some restrictions on the kind of units I can use, or he would walk away. The rules are clear:

  • No D-weapons

  • No monstrous creatures

  • Everything else is fair game. So, how do I build this list to be most competitive?

Note: I do not have too many jetbike units, so at best I can do one Windrider squad, and no biker Warlocks.

ok so assuming that no monstrous extends to no gargantuans as well, no wk, and no WG.

This comp is screaming deathstar at me. The only option you have in this regard is a seer council, and adding on baharroth, eldrad etc. Is this an option for you?

You can make him rage beyond mortal comprehension with a truckload of warp spiders.

However what i'm reading into this game is that he just wants some fun. If he turns up with a massive deathstar, you want to be able to run away from it/tie it up,

If you're taking this super seriously, then seer council and baharroth, otherwise use it as an excuse to take the more fun stuff in the eldar codex.

If you really want to piss him off, take harlequin cast of players, i'll elaborate why and how if this is an option.

He said, and I quote: "I have nothing to counter those stuff, sorry, but it would be one sided and not fun for anybody."

He's trying to experiment with different formations and wants a challenge, but not something that's almost guaranteed to wipe half his army out by the end of the second turn.

i'll go for a basic craftworld warhost.

    farseer
    3x guardian defenders
    3x vaul
    3x War walkers
    1x Vyper.

then you can add pretty much anything to cover all corners from aspects to vehicles.

Wich i found odd it's that he rages about MC (wich pretty much is Wraithlords and Waithknights and the 1st are hardly gamabreaking units aside high T ) and D weapons but not about scat bike spam or warp spider spam. so i may expect something big and armoured on his side and he's just fearful you are going to obliterate it away from the table very easily.

P.S: i may suggest considering the option of a buffed up fire dragon squad just for giggles...

I got four formations made, I don't know if it's right to put them all in one post.

Go for it! Maybe use the "spoiler" button to squeeze 'em in.

Go with Aspect Hosts: DAs, Hawks, Reapers. I hear spiders are good, too.

Also, you both could consider the "highlander" build restrictions: Only one kind of unit per army, along with the no D-wep and no MCs. So only one unit of DAs, one farseer, etc.

A list of your models owned would be helpful.

That would be a very long list. As an update, I had a discussion with my friend and he said he was okay with Monstrous Creatures, but not Gargantuan Creatures or Lords of War.

His reasoning is that he wanted a game which didn't pressure him to focus half his army to taking down a single unit which could otherwise destroy him, and instead prefers a game which relies on strategy and tactics, not about who can bring the bigger stick.

So I'm working on a few formations with Wraiths.
