You do realize that can be adjusted accordingly to how it works for you and your group right?

I hear you there bottle. I was super excited to try it out with the increased factions and even get some friends to participate in a campaign. But yeah, the armies are huge and that idea soon went out the window.

Only just got my books a couple of hours ago so not read it yet- but yeah, that's far too many models.
I'm lucky my main opponent is my other half, and she is happy to do it my way, which is too just add one or two minis a week as and when I can actually get them painted.
Was also a little disappointed to see that the tables for the path to glory don't even match up to the most basic starter boxes. I could have missed it (I've only skimmed after all) but the death tables I see no ghosts in it. The tables will need a rewrite for us to be able to use them.
The skaven one made me laugh- cant get more than one of the same hero, reroll if you get the same result, but all the numbers, 1 through 6 are all plague priests! Your be stuck rerolling that table for ever!!

ditto, was interested in that as a warbands style project has proven popular in the past, but the basic armies seem rather large plus the expanded lists still leave a lot of stuff out (most order and older greenskins etc).
I could probably take it as is and shrink it - except few I know have bought into the newer models so have no lists for this campaign.
I think GW missed a trick with a default out the book escalation type game.

Not only that... I feel bad for my mate who started out recently with Seraphon. Sorry, can't join in this kind of campaign!
I'm in the proces of rewriting it though. Same spirit, but giving people like 600p to start with and gaining 100 (lost game) or D3X100 points.
And to allow them to buy a magic item with a command trait for 100p or something if they are a bit low on cash to expand an army.
Also, the concept in the book completely screws over people who want to slowly expand their force by making it a dice roll to gain new units. A system that just allows people to expand their armies the way they want, makes a lot more sense.
And then make it a "first to 10 victories" type campaign. I might mix in the benefits from the summer campaign to boost people who start lagging behind a bit.

Anyway, so it's not what I expected and that's a little sad because I thought this was going to be awesome straight off the shelf. Which means I likely won't be able to take part if they run this at my GW store because straight off the shelf is how they would do it. It requires quite a bit of work to make this system playable in my opinion.
I agree with you, that the Path to Glory is not quite what I wanted either.
I see why they did what they did, because their rules opens up for using their entire range of (non-named) models, but I also prefer something on a much smaller scale. The smaller scale makes it a little more like an actual warband, and also makes it easier to build up some personalities in the warbands.
My simple suggestions for a slightly changed Path to Glory would be to use all the rules suggested in the book, apart from the General and Followers table.
Instead use the points lists from the Matched Play section.
Let all Warbands start out with 300 points, and let people buy less than full units by paying the individual model cost in points.
Then after ever match you get 1d6 x 10 points if you lost, 2d6 x 10 for a draw and 3d6 points for a win.
You can pay 60 points to roll on Rewards table.
You can save up 300 points at max.
If you have units under full strenght, you have fill them up first, before you can start new units.
That's fairly simple, and should let the Warbands start really small, and slowly build up. Additionally it should weed out some of the most expensive Warscrolls in the game, and hopefully keep things on a more balanced, and Warband-like level, instead of growing into entire armies.
I think an Underdog bonus would also be nice, but I am not sure what would work best, so any suggestions are more than welcome :-)

I dig this. If I can ever finish my ACW project and Flames of War then I might grow a force doing something like this.

Thats the problem with being enslaved to "official" and why for a very great many years I have stayed away from "official" and just did my own thing and rules.
It paid off as we have a large group that is ok with not being official but the downside is it fractured the area as there are a whole lot of people that insist on official that has a couple of members that get VERY angry about not official rules being played in public events.
