What is Obsidian? I can't remember where I herd the name from before. All I can think of is Obsidian rock or stone. I am thinking of having my Stormcasts and what not have their swords made out of Obsidian stone/rock. But before I do, what is it and what colour is it? Have it as a dark greenish black colour. Just wondering if I should call it something else if Obsidian is not what I think it is.

I believe you're thinking of obsidian glass which is made from cooled down magma.

It's color is usually shiny black but some green highlights would be cool to see.

The main people who weaponized it were Aztecs, Mayans and Hawaiians by making clubs with obsidian blades or shark teeth inset around the sides. The Seraphon "swords" are actually based on those weapons so maybe you could try a mixed theme with Stormcasts wielding their weapons.

Thanks for the reply Baron Klatz.

I am thinking my Stormcast Eteranals, have turned on the coward Sigmar the False god. So instead of using the weapons that Sigmar gave them they will be using Obsidian weapons or weapons made out of Obsidian.

I was just hoping it was some kind of magical material or not. If not, then I can call it magical material to go up against Sigmar.

Eh, can still work. Obsidian is made from cooled down magma so just go for a magical lava angle.

Either from the realm of fire as Malerion was once the controller of the wind of fire so perhaps gave your Stormcast the weapons as part of an Order coup or something taken from the Fyreslayers that they were meant to protect like sacred forge fires used by the old dwarf gods.(maybe your stormcast leader plans on reforging Khaine's sword which was a God killing weapon)

Something like that.

If you had their armour like that you could even play about with them being corrupted by Nagash I guess.

Obsidian is a glass like material arising from rapidly cooling lava/magma that results in the atoms being unable to form into a crystalline structure.

Like glass it can break into very sharp fragments (hence it's use in weapons and knifes), but is relatively fragile because of the lack of internal structure. It can be black, brown and green and much more rarely blue, red, orange, or yellow but 'glossy' in appearance.

If you are basing your world on some from of geological context then obsidian weapons make sense (but would be useless for armoured opponents); but obsidian armour would be relatively pointless.

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

Yeah, lore wise if anyone could corrupt them it would be nagash since he can actually take their souls.

Oh I don't need Nagash even though that seems like a great idea.

Sigmar the Coward stole the bodies of these warriors just as they were protecting their loved ones. Just as victory was going to be reached for these humans/what ever they were, they were "scooped" away and the families/tribes/town were destroyed, pillaged, the people slaughtered, murdered or taken as slaves.

Maybe I will have Nagash or someone give them a glimpse of their memories back some how, and this is when the Stormcasts realized that Sigmar the Coward is not the mighty god he proclaims to be.

If they were not taken for Sigmar's personal goal, their families/tribe/race could still be alive and flourishing, or for some, they would have died with their loved ones but were stripped of being with them in what ever after life they believe and have such a hatred for Sigmar they only have revenge left now.

Thank you everyone, some good ideas here.

Funny enough sigmar actually has been doing that.

The lord of undeath book has a pretty big bomb shell for stormcast players if you follow this train of thought. If you want I can put it into a spoiler tag.

In Game of Throes obsidian is also called dragonglass (link1, link2). You could try naming it in a similar fashion, kinda like warpstone? Blackglass, magicglass, warpglass, you just need to find something that fits with your theme and sounds a bit magic-like.
