I am looking at setting up a charity tournament for my father in-law that has cancer.

In approaching a store to be able to use there space what should I keep in mind for pricing and the store needs?

Pricing for the event is a concern I am not sure how to do it. Entry fee to high no one comes to low no money is made for the charity. I was thinking 35.

Also food should it be included?

The Tournament should have a different format or should it keep to the same style that's common in the area?

I was thinking full painted is not needed but if you are you get 1 reroll per game.

Also how about before each game for 5 dollars you get 2 reroll for that game?

I was thinking about a Highlander tournament or maybe a Ard-boys ITC style tournament.

I have some nice items as prices and or auction item's already.

I will be thankful for any advice on doing this. I have a store that said they may be able to help but we need to talk about things.

Please make me a informed person. LOL

Stores often go with $10 flat or $20 purchased of GW's stuff for RTTs. Definitely something the store manager can answer.

Make buying a slice of pizza part of the fund raising. Caesar's is going to be $5 a pizza, so $2 a slice does you good. Same can be said for a $1 for a can of of soda pop. You buy them at the local market or Cosco. A little further OverHead cost will be making sure they're cooled before the event and either scoring a borrowed fridge ( I know really big strong people who move fridges like moving chairs ). Or ice chests, but would cost you $ for ice.

Also, be sure to stay on top of the event (money that is) yourself and send a minion to buy the pizza. Nothing is so stressful as being In Charge, and then getting stuck behind the fool who takes a casual approach to the time in being pie at a Ceasars or Dominoes.

This is a good idea. I'd seen this is at one charity gig:

For every X number of food cans (food drive pre-Thanksgiving) got you a one die reroll. Maybe you could make this every $2 or so. It can be managed by coming to each player and writing the number of rerolls on their army sheet, for that game.

Keep it local flavor on the missions. ITC or strict RB (non maelstroms). Go normal ITC builds

Overall, I would keep the format of the actual play as normal as possible. This means players won't spend energy and attention on learning the new missions or anything beyond normal. They can focus on the charity aspect.

Other items to consider having:
1. a cash box
2. legal receipts

Tourney stuff
3. Have the store provide its TO like normal or get a volunteer from the pool of locals
4. A ringer for the odd man out Round 1

Where is your gig?

Ok thank you for you thoughts on this as running a tournament let a lone a fundraiser is completely out of my experience... No same in asking for help LOL

I am based is Tacoma WA I am looking at setting this up in the Puget Sound area. So Olympia to Everett, Bremerton to Issaquah.

I have talked to one store and they may be able to help but I need to have more of a plan. They gave me two weeks to come up with a plan for making it a ITC event at the end of October.

More questions for people

I am looking at including food. Hamburgers and hot dogs chips and soda.

Entry free of $30 sound reasonable?

Would you like to play small point game on 4x4 tables or a higher point game on 4x6?

One is more people at the event at lower point level 1000 to 1500.
The other is normal play level or higher too bring all the toys 1850 to 2500.

I am not sure how people will like playing on smaller tables even at smaller point levels.

Your idea is something like: At the start of each game you could buy one reroll for 2 dollars, 2 for 4 dollars or three rerolls for 5 dollar. Which could be used in different ways. One way would be to trade all three in to make rerolls for a whole unit one time or make just three individual rolls, or spend two to make you opponent reroll something.

These are just ideas but seamed like a fun way to raise extra cash.

How many time have you just wanted that one reroll in a game.

How do you go about getting White Dwarf involved? I am looking at a two or three months from now a October or November kind of thing possibly.

I am looking at this being a ITC even as well. Which should help some people out.

Was looking at this as a possible setup.

I have been thinking about a escalation tournament. First round would be 1100 points second round would be 1850 in the third round last round would be 2500. The first round will be played on a 4 by 4 table. The last two rounds will be played on the normal 4 x 6 table. This way we have around that goes really fast then with a normal round and then one that will run a little longer. This simulates a conflict starting and reserves coming into the final climatic battle. I think this would be the best way to set up the system to give it a unique flavor.

Raffles are a very good way of raising funds.
People would usually donate to buy raffle tickets, so you could keep entry low but offer a prize. Throughout the day you may find folk pick up a handful more tickets now and then.
