The Season of War campaign really got me into Age of Sigmar, but the Flesh-Eater Army I already have is so hilariously strong, that It is basically invincible. So I decided to finally give the ogres a chance, but just playing fat mongol-ish dudes is not enough!
After I saw a picture on the net of an ogre conversion with ork heads, I knew what i had to do: Warcraft Orks, every one stronger, bigger and meaner than a human cavalryman!
I did the hunter as a test model to play around with the colours:

Luckily, the new beastclaw warscrolls dropped this weekend, so i set about to building a frostlord on stonehorn

i hope you guys like this as a start, more coming soon!

Well, I had the Frostlord sitiing on my desk during work (home office ftw) and that gave me ample time to realise I didn't like him.
Firstly, his pose was to stock and not organic enough, also, he had no way to steer the 'horn.
Secondly, that bigass totempole bugged me. It was going to be really hard to box the model for transport and it looks kind off tacked on and useless, so i transferred the lord to the much cooler jaws saddle.
Thirdly, I really loathe finecast and that bendy, soft resin weapon drove me nuts.
And last, but not least: the head was.. off. It didn't look fitting.
After some tinkering, iteration 1 - weapon resting, old head minus topknot:

tinkering around with different heads, possible hood leads to iteration 2 - big head, hood, spear pointing:

the head came out disproportionally too big, so iteration 3: my favourite head, spear still pointing, but in direction of movement:

But OH MY GOD do I hate working with finecast. The hunter I painted is the old metal version and while it takes a lot of care and safety glasses to work that stuff with a grinder, the surface texture is simply superior, as well as the overall level of detail. Next to the hunter, the resin tyrant looks like a cheap chinese recast. Only saving grace: with a metal tyrant, the model would really be in danger of doing a faceplant. XD

Starting on the line infantry:
the bellower for the first bull squad shouting the quintessential english warcry: "OI! WANKA!"

another bull and the cannoneer unit leader:

and the prototype irongut:

At first I wasn't a fan due to the proportions but when you add paint to them they look amazing and do look proportionall. Looking forward to the Storhorn being painted.

Thanks Painting the Stonehorn will be the reward after assembling all of the troopers.

Here's a groupshot of what's ready to paint at the moment:

i tried breaking up the monotony of the sculpts by adding some GS detail like ponchos, hoods and scarves fitting for the harsh climate these guys are supposed to live in.

for whatever weird reason, in the generals handbook, ogor units come in multiples of three, while ironguts and cannoneers come in boxes of four. -.-
this leaves me with the following left to build:
2x cannon ogor
8x ironguts with all the trimmings
4x fenrisian wolves to be used as frost sabres

as for further purchases, i already got a thundertusk second hand and i would really like to have the huskard on thundertusk (for the healing) and another unit of mournfangs (besatclaw avalanche!)

game-wise the frostlord on stonehorn is hilariously stompy, especially with the +1 to hit and +1 to wound artefact and ability. Basically solo'd 1k points of stormcast

Been sick a couple of days, so little progress, but I started painting the Frostlord:

photo quality sucks - cellphone cam under fluorescent light, but I'll take some better pics tomorrow.

Hope you start to feel better, he is looking great! I really like the contrast, I'm going to eventually get one to convert into a squiggoth.

I love Orcgres And if you're talking about the delicious dark green Orcgres from the Ogre Stronghold all those years ago, those are some of my favorite ogres bar none

Yours are looking great already

Do you have a link to them, maybe?

Here is a better lit pic of the the Frostlord:

I usually don't drybrush that much, but I don't seem to have a choice on this army.^^ Well, the colours are all blocked in, on to the fiddly details.

Took some digging, and logging back into the Stronghold after years away, but here's the link to Nightmare's Tribe of the Dragon's Mountain. Gotta say, new Stronghold is looking good too!
