that ended a few years ago, I think on the 50th anniversary. so japan can now and does have a military again. We like those bases there because we can keep a large force in the vicinity of hot spots.

Japan is, from my understanding, prevented from having a military that can project force elsewhere. They have the Japanese Self-Defense Force(JSDF) though. Their Rangers are supposed to be top notch.

Trump seems to think that Russia is ahead of the US when it comes to military equipment.

The reason that the B-52 is still around, Trump, is because it is a really good plane. Earlier you were complaining that the US is wasting money. I think completely redesigning new nuclear weapon delivery systems would certainly be a waste of money when the one you have is still great.

Of course this is completely ignoring the USAs nuclear equipped subs and ICBMs.

Not really. They have a self defense force (which they've always had AFAIK), but their constitution prohibits them from having a proper military. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_9_of_the_Japanese_Constitution

I'm not sure there is really any military equipment that the Russians have an edge on us. I don't think their experimental tank is supposed to be even as good as an Abrams either.

Stamina seems important

Its been a topic of discussion because of fear about China and North Korea, but thus far it has not been repealed to my knowledge.
