Subject: [1500] - Necron - Highlander

I am going to a tournament next week and looking for constructive feed back for my list.
Format is Highlander, so can only take 1 of each unit. Point limit =1500. Must be a Cad.
HQ
Illuminor Szeras
Orikan
Troops
Immorals x5 (Gauss Cannons)
Warriors x 10 (Ghost Ark)
FA
Canoptek Wraiths x6 (whip coils x6)
Destroyers x6
Tomb blades x6 (x6 Nebuloscopes, x6 shieldvanes)
HS
Doomsday Ark
Heavy Destroyers x3
Orikan Hanging out with wraiths.
Try to stack most of the shooty units around Szeras for the +1 RP bonus.
What should I do to make this list better, or should I come up with something completely new?
Thanks

Are you allowed to bring formations to supplement your Cad? A canoptek harvest would make your wraithstar even more potent than it already is.
Most of your list seems to consist of some top tier units. Personally, I don't think it's worth taking Illuminor Szeras just to buff two min units of troops, but if the destroyers hang around as well I guess it might work. I think that maybe replacing him with an overlord or destroyer lord with voidreaper could be really good, as it would make your wraithstar much more powerful.
The doomsday ark isn't ideal, although at least it gives you an option against vehicles and anything with a 2+ save, as only the heavy destroyers can deal with both and the wraithstar can deal with the latter, but I think there are better options in the codex.
I don't know how good the ghost ark is anymore, the FAQ seemed to nerf it considerably since it can no longer be used as a firing platform after you jink, and it can only benefit one of your units as you can only have one unit of warriors in this format. On the other hand, it adds mobility and another durable ObSec unit. So maybe it will be a great investment.
What I'd suggest is to replace your doomsday ark with Triarch stalkers, if you have the models. They can give your destroyers a terrific buff with the +1 ballistic skill. I'm coming up with a list based on yours, but with some substantial changes. It keeps the theme of your list (fire base with the destroyers/troops supplemented by a wraithstar) but it changes that theme a bit. I'll update as soon as I have finished. Automatically Appended Next Post: Combined Arms Detachment
HQ
Orikan the Diviner 120 pts.
Lord w/ warscythe 70 pts.
Troops
5 immortals 85 pts.
10 warriors 130 pts.
Ghost ark (dedicated transport for warriors) 105 pts.
Elites
2 Triarch stalkers (one squadron) 250 pts.
Fast attack
6 destroyers 240pts.
6 tomb blades w/ nebuloscopes and shieldvanes 132 pts.
Canoptek Harvest
1 Canoptek Spyder 50 pts.
3 Canoptek scarab bases 60 pts.
6 wraiths w/ whip coils 258 pts.
total: 1500 pts.
The strategy is for the two characters to join the wraiths. The immortals screen the two stalkers, and the destroyers line up behind them. The destroyers/stalkers/immortals make up the gunline. The wraiths and characters will form a super durable unit that you can throw directly at the enemy, tying down powerful units and even killing vehicles with rending/warscythe. The fire base can deal with the squishier parts of your opponent's army in the meantime. The tomb blades make an excellent distraction/ objective claiming unit, they can deal enough firepower to be a nuisance, and are great for objective grabbing. The ghost ark and warriors can go and claim important objectives. The two units together will be annoying to dislodge, and will be able to put out a decent bit of firepower by themselves.
I hope you find this list useful, it's just an idea so you should definitely edit it to suit your local meta. The hardes thing for me was removing the heavy destroyers. If you want to get heavy gauss cannons back in the list you could drop the lord and take a single heavy destroyer and tl heavy gauss cannons on the stalkers in order to get some better anti vehicle power, although the heat Ray is more effective vs infantry and at short range against vehicles.

Nope on the formations. The only formation you can have is the Cad.
Ok ... to your points. Szeras also buffs the warriors to BS5, T5, or S5. He also has a 36 inch S8 AP2 Lance weapon. So he is 1 more threat to Vehicles or bigger threats.
The ghost ark is as you say, just another obsec threat and mobility for the warriors.
The only thing I am really uncertain about is the Doomsday ark. But what would I put in its place? I could add 1 stalker .... but I don't think it would have as much of an impact.

I honestly think that the stalker would still be better. the doomsday ark has more direct firepower and is more survivable, since it has an extra hp and can jink. But if it jinks, the doomsday ark becomes useless. And if it doesn't, it will often be taken down in one or two turns. And of course, it can't move and still shoot effectively. So if you expect to see a lot of terrain, the ark can quickly become useless.
On the other hand, you have the stalker. It's a good deal cheaper, and rather flimsy for a necron unit with 3 hp and quantum shielding. Firepower is less versatile, although the heat Ray can deal with vehicles and light infantry effectively at short range. But the biggest advantage is the +1 ballistic skill buff. Pairing that buff with destroyers is terrific, since they go from bs4 to effectively bs10 with bs5 and PE. That means your destroyers and heavy destroyers will be hitting nearly all of their shots. Normally, I would absolutely agree that a single Triarch stalker is a suboptimal choice, but it is a bit better than a doomsday ark, which I don't see doing much in a competetive environment most of the time.

10-4 ... will take it into consideration

The Doomsday Ark, the Triarch Stalker, and the Ghost Ark are all suboptimal choices.
Here are some things to consider in their places . . .
1) A Destroyer Lord with Nightmare Shroud and a war scythe. Have him join your Orikan Wraithstar. In addition to giving the Wraithstar preferred enemy he can tank wounds with a rerollable 2+ armour save.
2) A large unit of Praetorians.

So you would pull both the GA and the Doomsday? And just put in a pimped out D-lord?

I had also suggested a large unit of Praetorians.
The main thing I am suggesting is to fill your list with the best Necron stuff. You have done this to a certain extent. Orikan, Wraiths, Tomb Blades, Destroyers, and Heavy Destroyers are the best things in the Necron codex. However, you have polluted your list with weak stuff with the inclusion of the Ghost Ark and the Doomsday Ark.
So instead of the Ghost Ark and the Doomsday Ark I suggest you include the next best things in the Necron codex, namely the Destroyer Lord and the Triarch Praetorians. Doing this fills your list with potent stuff and it also has the benefit of making your list entirely vehicle free and therewith blanking the opponents AV. Actually, if you insist on putting a vehicle in your list I would recommend the Night Scythe since that will still blank out a lot of the opponents arsenal.

All very good observations. I can attest to the stalker backed heavy destroyers. The amount of punishment they put out is disgusting. But then again a tooled up d/lord with wraiths, by itself, is potent, I've never fielded t with orikan, but have heard good things.
I've personally found low amounts of HD's without a stalker to be frustratingly erratic. I'm probably just unlucky but I tend to roll a lot of 2's to hit with them. ><
