Howdy everyone, so I have a Betrayal at Calth set, its all built and primed black, I've tried one way of painting them but its waaayyy to thick, the paint layers, and it looks not to good on the contemptor so I was wondering of anyone knew an easy way to paint a heresy salamanders theme

Assuming you're going for the darker, muted HH style Sallies like the FW books show, my method (example in the pics below) is thus:

- Start with a base of Olive Drab (I use Vallejo, but most ranges will have one as it's a popular colour for military stuff) over the whole armour
- Apply 2-3 thin layers of an Olive Drab/strong green (I use old GW Knarloc Green, but any strong green will do the trick), adding more green each time until you're using an even 1:1 mix
- Glaze the whole armour with Waywatcher Green or similar to saturate the colour a bit more, then hit the recesses with a black wash. You can add a final highlight of the earlier green/olive mix if need be, but a lot of the time the glaze and wash is enough to get it to pop any anything lighter starts losing the muted look.

Example:

Hope that's of some help!

Cheers, with citadel colors now what are the equalvilents of the olive drab and the strong green, I don't have easy access to Vallejo so yeah, also, do you know an easy way of stripping paint off of models?

Looking at the GW paint range, the closest to olive would be Elysian Green, for the stronger green you want Loren Forest or Warboss Green. Waywatcher Green is still available, and Nuln Oil is the best black wash going, so those 4 should have you covered, I think.
