I don't remember ever seeing the Space Marine Honour Guard in a game or in a list, yet on paper, they seem pretty nifty. For 25 points apiece (vs. 35 for an assault termie), you get a power weapon and a 2+ armor save. They lack the invulnerable save and the ability to Deep Strike, but twice as many of them can fit in a Land Raider, or they can take a drop pod. They also have grenades and boltguns. With a chapter banner, they get 5 attacks each on the charge and 4 the rest of the time.

5 assault termies (3 with thunder hammers and storm shields) in a Land Raider = 455 points.
10 Honour Guard with chapter banner in a drop pod = 320 points.
5 Honour Guard in a drop pod = 170 points.

If I had to use them, I'd probably buy the Masters of the Chapter, below. The official Honour Guard set includes Calgar, which drives up the price.

Of course a grey knight kit. Some vanguard or sternguard bits and asorted chapter items and bingo.

Custom honourguard and a utter ton of bits left over.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Point for point, they are pretty nice for a choppy unit. I’ve had fun taking them out for a spin.

I made mine mostly from sternguard parts, with a heavy trip through my bits box for extras.

I use 7 of them alongside Pedro Kantor and a Librarian. The whole unit gets something like 55 attacks on the charge. Not too shabby. Especially when they are Invisible or rocking Endurance.

I used to run a blob of them back when they could take auxiliary grenade launchers.

It's probably because of the only "official" kit they come from comes with your Spiritual Liege and so anyone who doesn't play UM probably skip over it.

Otherwise, they seem crazy good.

I used the fw warder kit to make my crimson fist honour guard, they look spot on.

They work but you absolutely need something to cask a buff on them. For the points they're actually pretty durable, but you need the buffs to charge anything worth, we'll, charging.

Nice! I bet that looks awesome. My Honour Guard are a combination of Sternguard and Honour Guard kits and the Shadow Captain Solaq as my Chapter Champion. I want to get some 3rd party capes so they all look special.

I use the cape to pick out the chapter champion.

In my case the Champion is the only dude with a sword so it is fairly easy. The official HG kit has everyone with capes.

My Champion is the only one with the Hammer. I always pick that option.

With no ability to take a Storm Shield and the Champion being required to issue Challenges, don't you just lose the poor guy all the time?

That’s my thoughts on the TH champ as well. It’s one thing to take a hidden powerfist in a squad, but the champ is probably as far from safe as you can make him.

I guess on the flip side, he does have a 2+, and most things AP2 in CC strike last. Still seems risky to me.

AP2 at initiative isn't common enough for me to care. What it does though is make him hit harder against targets without characters or vehicles or MC's.

I dare you to test that theory against my Chapter Champion and his six attacks

That is a good point though. Since not many units are going to be a huge threat, might as well go big with the hammer. I am probably going to cut my Champion's Sword off and put a Power Maul in its place.
