What's up dakkas!

I have a dream...that I can run a pure deathwatch list that is mostly fun and competitive enough to give me a chance to win games

So here goes:

Black Spear Strike Force

Watch Commander
Watch Master (Tome of Ectoclades)

Purgatus Kill Team
Librarian (ML 2)
2x Terminators (2x Assault Cannon)
5x Veterans (4x Deathwatch Frag Cannon)

Dropship (Watchmaster and Purgatus Kill Team go here)
Corvus Backstar (Backstar Rocket Launcher, Infernum Halo Launcher)

Aquila Kill Team
Librarian (ML 1)
5x Veterans (4x Deathwatch Frag Cannon)
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Aquila Kill Team
Librarian (ML 1)
5x Veterans (4x Infernus Heavy Bolter)
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Kill Team
6x Veterans
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Ancient
Dreadnought (MM, Heavy Flamer)
Drop Pod

So the idea for this list was to maximize the ability to change Mission Tactics (3 times with this list, 4 with the warlord trait, and an additional time for the watch master's squad).

Tell me what you guys think, constructive responses are appreciated

Edited for miscalculations... Also thinking about removing the librarians (make the Purgatus KT an Aquila, and change the Aquila's to regular KT) which would allow me to have 235 points to play with possibly bringing another corvus or something cool like a vindicare and an extra assault cannon termie. Something like this:

Black Spear Strike Force

Watch Commander
Watch Master (Tome of Ectoclades)

Aquila Kill Team (Watch Master joins here)
2x Terminators (2x Assault Cannon)
5x Veterans (4x Deathwatch Frag Cannon)
Drop Pod

Dropship
Corvus Backstar (Backstar Rocket Launcher, Infernum Halo Launcher)

Kill Team
5x Veterans (4x Deathwatch Frag Cannon)
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Kill Team
5x Veterans (4x Infernus Heavy Bolter)
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Kill Team
5x Veterans
Razorback (Assault Cannon)

Kill Team
5x Veterans (4x Infernus Heavy Bolter)
Drop Pod

Ancient
Dreadnought (MM, Heavy Flamer)
Drop Pod

The second list has no psykers but supplies a lot more firepower by letting me bring in 2 pods the first turn along with an extra squad of infernus heavy bolters)

If you're wanting to maximize the number of time you can change Mission Tactics why not take Watch Captain Artemis as your Watch Commander?

One possible reason is that he's not a codex unit.

It's says in the codex that you may use Artemis as your watch captain.

Where? And his datasheet is certainly not in the Codex.

Seems like the two box sets are a mandatory buy if you want the full DW rules.

Although I didn't look at Artemis when making this list: comparing the two, they both offer +1 change to mission tactics (Vigilance Incarnate and Master of Tactics do the same thing) and you can give the standard watch master a relic that lets him and his squad use an additional mission tactic for a turn (ToE).

Artemis is 40 points cheaper but the watch master gives me +1 wound and attack, 2+ save rather than a 3+, and the ToE. That 2+ poisoned combi flamer is nice but so is the guardian spear w/ special issue ammo imo.

Forces of the Deathwatch (Page 70 - 71) says nothing about Artemis, or anything to do with Death Masque or Overkill units.

Nice of them to tell us that.

Since removing all their articles from the online store, I almost never go there.

Mine does not say that. I think we have different books.

My photo is from the Codex, so yours could be DM's rules.

Unless the rumor mill got given the old switcheroo.

drok55555 picture is from the Death Masque supplement, I have both the codex and DM and it does say in the DM supplement under Forces of the deathwatch, that you can swap out units in the Codex DW formations for specific units from the DM box set supplement. Artemis can be a watch captain, Venerable Dreadnought Nihilus can be used anywhere a venerable dreadnought is mentioned, Squad Crull can replace a veteran squad and squad Galatael can replace a vanguard squad in the DW codex formations.

What is the points cost of Nihilus?

135 points. All the rules for the box set special units and formations are in the death masque box set. Except for artemis and MAYBE nihilus, MAYBE, it's irrelevant as the units are the same cost they would normally be and have set(Terrible) wargear and the formations aren't good enough to be worth looking at. Artemis having a Stength D melee attacks that hits himself if it misses is hilarious.

Noice. That is, however, not the book I was looking for. But still good
