Hey

I'm a new player looking to get into IG but I am unfamiliar with the imperial armor books.

Which ones have options for IG?

Thanks for any help

hey what time is it?

Hey

I think you're referring to Imperial Armor vol 1, second edition which is Forge World.

The more commonly used one is codex: Astra Militarum.

The Astra Militarum codex is pretty much all you'll need as a beginner. Imperial Armor books each focus on special rules and stats for varying subjects, usually they'll describe it in the summary. I don't have the second edition, but the old one I had went into detail about the IG's special armored units such as the Salamander Armored HQ, Armored Stationary guns, Bombard Armored Artillery and the Destroyer Tank (to name a few). I also think the Games-Workshop's Apocalypse book also has rules/stats for Super-Heavy-Armor, but I don't know if it goes into detail for the lighter armored units.

I would suggest starting out with the AM codex and work up from there.

I heard recently that the "Vendetta" had some update to make it all nice again (if you are willing to convert a Valkyrie or get the FW kit).

It seems the "new" emphasis is getting some (primaris) psycher and air power on the table these days.

Making good use of our good buddy "Pask" is worth looking into too (Leman Russ Punisher with a full HB load-out).

Using conscripts with a priest makes for a cheap and hard to kill meat shield for the tanks.

A 5 man squad of Tempestus to deep-strike in with melta is a good armor killer if something really needs to die.

Veteran troops with melta in Chimeras are the "new black".

A few vets sitting back with lascannons (BS4 is key in this case) and some orders can be handy while under cover.

I would suggest Armored Sentinels with plasma because (BS3 sucks and S7 Templates have good utility... plus these guys are CHEAP on points).

For heavy artillery, the Wyvern is worth looking at for addressing horde armies or troops in general.
Cheap! and more re-rolls than you can shake a stick at.

For utility, I tend to field the Leman Russ Exterminator so you can fire everything: S7 Hvy:4 Twin-Linked is not to be sneezed at never mind all other weapons can be fired fully (not ordinance). Can be anti-air in a pinch.

Bringing some Aegis defense lines would be handy for your foot sloggers to hold the line.

This might be more than you asked... I got all excited there.

Krieg! What a hole...

Swap the Scion team for a Scion command squad, you'll twice as many melta guns and a fairly reliable way to twinlink them.

Ha! I love little tweaks like that... wouldn't that be a bit expensive though?

You can always stick with 2 melta guns, that'll only bring the price up by 15 pts for twinlink, I think its worth it.

Where can I find the options to make a big fat artillery squad?

That's what I'm really after.

I'm going to start looking into imperial armor.

Imperial Armor with their fixed artillery positions is one of your best choices. You can get more guns if you go Renegades with the Siege of Vraks book.
