Given that the HTH from DW replaces all weapons, does this mean he loses his grenades too?

There have been a few discussions on whether grenades are weapons. Most grenades I think by RAW are weapons, though they often seem to be treated as not the same as other weapons.

HIWPI though in this situation would be to not consider them weapons for the purpose of what is replaced by the Heavy Thunder Hammer.

I read it the same way. Guess we get to awaite the FAQ that tells us to include grenades with no reason given, because of course they would.

I do not think I have seen grenades ever listed as weapons in a codex. All the codecii I have list the grenades in the codex's generic wargear section along with things like jump packs and bikes.

So I am sure you do not lose your grenades.

Even in the BRB, Grenades are not part of either ranged nor melee weapons lists.

Grenades are just grenades, they might have a profile of a weapon in a certain phase but that is part of their special rules. For example Rad Grenades do not have a profile at all(unless they got new rules in the deathwatch codex, I still haven't had a chance to pick mine up), just an effect.

That does not mean those with profiles are not Weapons, though. The Grenade rules are just separated out due to the fact that some are used as Weapons (Krak), some are not (Rad), and some are sometimes used as Weapons and sometimes not depending on the Phase (aka Frags).

Many recognized Weapons are not listed under the Weapon lists in a codex Armoury, but still have affects without using it as a Weapon, Artefacts, for example. Some Weapons are listed in the codex Armour, but still have affects without using it as a Weapon, the Great Axe of Khorne for example if we go by the Draft FAQ ruling.

I would say it doesn't replace the grenades, because things that do replace grenades (usually Terminator Armor of some sort) always state it replaces grenades.

I haven't seen the actual codex though and GW's inconsistent grammar means that precedents are not worth much.
