I am asking this because something occurred to me.

With the Sylvaneth, they already had a few kits that were very close to that armies look and ascetic such as Dryads, Treelords and Branchwraiths. These became lumped into that faction many months before they got their full army release.

But all of the High and Dark Elf ranges were put into smaller sub factions. We didn't have dark elf warriors changed to be called shadow warriors or Phoenix Guard to the Light Guard or anything like that. They've teased these two new factions, but we don't know what they will be.

So, I can only assume the reason they have done that is because when those newer models come out they will all be radically different from the previous ranges. To the extent that you couldn't use High/Dark Elves as part of whatever these armies are going to be like you can Dryads. Something along the lines of how Tree Revenants are clearly elven, but a massive departure from the previous range.

Which is odd, because the Silver Tower models didn't look too much of a shift away from normal Dark Elves.

I reckon the Dark Elves will be based around shadow constructs and monsters. Whereas the Light Elves, I want to say angelic beings but its hard to separate that from the Stormcast. They're the one I am least sure about TBH. Even light constructs/monsters would be hard to distinguish from Stormcast. I think it would be really cool if they made them Sky Titans or something like that.

What does everyone think they're going to do with these armies?

I truly believe that at least one of the Aelf factions will be split away from Order. I think this will happen probably with another big event involving the return of Slaanesh.

Probably going to be Shadow Elves.

Question is who they go with.

Death and Destruction seems to be based around worship of their respective gods. I could maybe see Shadow Elves as part of Death. But, its a lot more likely as you say that we will have Slannesh be all Sauron and corrupt one of the Elven factions into joining Chaos. I mean how exactly did mother dearest survive the End Times?

I am just more curious about what the big theme or gimmick of these two factions will be because I do think its going to be a major departure from D&D High/Dark Elf stuff.

That's probably how Slaanesh will ultimately escape, through the corruption of some Dark Aelves, who promptly join the Chaos faction devoted solely to Slaanesh (it would at least be a nice aesthetic change for Chaos)
