What do you do for that early 90s spray paint that is almost chalky in texture. Ive soaked in 100% simple green for 2 days and ran my parts through an ultrasonic cleaner for about 3 hours. Now there is this chalky layer still left in just the corners. How do I get it out?

Whats the next step up in stripping power?

Are you using the new Simple Green? They changed the formula a year or two ago, making it far less effective. I'd suggest using Super Clean (automotive degreaser available at Autozone etc.) or Purple Power (same, but cheaper).

Put it in the ultrasonic and hit it with the toothbrush. Mine hasn't failed to remove anything so far. As with most chemicals wear gloves with the Super Clean.

I don't have proof of it, but I've heard from several blogs/videos etc. that Simple Green is no longer as effective. Maybe somebody who knows more can chime in?

Outer Space, Apparently

You could try using this magical stuff. I cannot guarantee it will work on such old paintjobs, as other users have come back with various degrees of success. However, given that it can do zero harm to your models, and is very cheap, quick and easy to use, there's no reason why you shouldn't try - all you need is some finer tools to get at those recessed areas and it should work as intended.

Hope this resolves the issue!

If I'm reading your post correctly, the primer coat is mostly gone, but it's just stuck in the corner recesses and such? My technique of choice is a metal pick, handled gently, which can deal with those last vestiges. The paint will come off easily enough, no need to put a lot of pressure on it.

I've tried Simple Green Heavy Duty, it functions just as well as the old version.

I've also used Easy Off. The normal kind. The Heavy Duty version of that melts the plastic. Just remember it's Easy Off Oven Cleaner spray, not Goof Off (that will melt the plastic even faster).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Purple power saved the day everyone. The corners we scraped out with an exacto. I now have a pristine complete set with original box of BATTLE TITANS. That old 90's game before space marine came out

Awesome. Yeah if a toothbrush won't get it, I also use a tiny metal pick for the super deep paint. Glad it's all worked out! I'm stripping an old Maugan Ra at this very moment.
