Describing Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, RoH tag team champions, as jobbers would be hilarious, if it wasn't the absolutely correct description in this situation. They could just as well have had them wrestle Top Flight again, the Outrunners, the bloody Infantry, the cult-y dudes in white who I think used to be all about eating butt, or anybody else. Bit of a smack in the face for RoH once again.

The Hurt Syndicate is over like rover, but there's a bit of a problem with AEW's tag division having a few top teams (all of whom are heels), even though the Hurt Syndicate are more like tweeners right now, and the rest being presented as ineffectual geeks. It's a shame that the Lucha Bros are gone, it's a shame that Santana &Ortiz are no more... btw, Ortiz still is signed to AEW, right? Where has he been the past 3 years?

I'd love to see more of Brian Cage and Lance Archer or Big Bill and Bryan Keith. The former two I just love to see because of the spectacle, the latter two I think got a good face run in them. But anyway. We need the Bang Bang Gang back.

Dynamite was really good. It felt a lot like a WWE show actually, but it's well done. I'm not entirely happy with the Moné/Storm exchange. Which always varied between good and rehearsed, but okay. Then there was the thing we have to talk about of course: the debut. The bloody Frat House. Is this the most WWE concept ever? Quite possibly. It might work really well as a jobber squad, if AEW didn't have so many of those already. Oh well, let's wait and see.

Oh, there was Thekla too. Good debut, let's hope they do something with her.

Brian Cage being injured seems to have derailed a match I think a lot of people want to see - sounds like his recovery is progressing, though, and hopefully we get that match when he comes back.

Damn R-Truth and Carlito got released. Truth just got a Saturday Night Main Event match against Cena as well.

@Dysartes: Oh, I did not know that. Thanks for the info. Dang. I like Brian Cage. He looks like a wrestler, he wrestles like a wrestler. He makes for a great bad guy to overcome for some good guy.

@Gert: Yeah. Maybe I'm just unable to process this, but the whole "contract is not being renewed" thing sounds a lot like a work to me. He'll either be back by the time it's time to get the title off Cena or he'll take on a different role within WWE or both. I'm very sure of that.

Not sad to see Carlito go. Never really taken to him.

But R Truth?

They missed an opportunity to make Cena more of a heel by challenging R-Truth to a lower leaves town match.

Yup, one of the reasons I don't quite believe we won't see R-Truth again in WWE very soon. You couldn't ask for a better situation (IF R-Truth really is to leave) for that sorta match. An established match type, which WWE hasn't done in AGES (last one I recall was Shane vs. Kevin Owens in 2017 or so? Kevin lost and just went over to Smackdown.)

with all the outpouring of love that wrestlers have given Ron in all of this, i find it hard to believe this is a work, unless WWE are working the boys on this one

i hope he goes to AEW. whether he stays this character or we see him as a serious wrestler again, i think he could really help in the mid and low card over there

less feelings on Carlito, but i also saw Sarah Logan get released and all i can say to that is "rip bozo"

I think there's a better chance of seeing him in TNA, as Tommy Dreamer has already told him on social media to hit him up.

Yeah, he's been to TNA before; extremely different company now of course, but I'd also rather see him there, to be honest. Maybe I'd like for AEW not to hire anybody for the next 3 years.

xD Guess what showed up in my youtube suggestions again? "SIMONG GOTCH BURIES ENZO AMORE"! Is this 2019? Watching it again for old time's sake.

edit: Bloody hell, Mercedes Moné wins the EWA Women's title at a surprise appearance last night in Vienna. The event, I chose not to go to because I was too lazy to go to.

Wait, people are still hiring Enzo “most loathed goon in the locker room and not even much of a wrestler” Amore?

Nah, surely not. But that Simon Gotch video was a kind of a youtube sensation for a bunch of years because it was ALWAYS suggested to people by the stupid, stupid algorithm when ever they watched anything wrestling-related, so it got like 2 million hits for a pretty regular wrestling interview, uploaded by some dude. And now it came back to being suggested. Crazy.

Yes, he's wrestling on the indies using the ring name nZo these days - and even had a match in NJPW in 2023, going by Wikipedia.

Excellent.

He’s always been one of my favourites. Despite usually being portrayed as a clueless idiot, the guy is really solid in the ring. Indeed, for his level of clueless idiot shtick to work, I’d argue you kinda need the “but a savant in the ring” angle. Otherwise they’re just a comedy slapstick to get squashed now and again.

I mean, the 24/7 Championship. For me, an underrated “send in the clowns” bit of bloody good fun, and R-Truth really drove that. Certainly I preferred some its intermission filling nonsense to endless puff pieces on other wrestlers.

Women’s Money in the Bank

A cracker. Some good looking lasses with even better looking wrasslin’. Always felt like it could be anyone’s match, which in a six way is kinda important.

Dominik Mysterio v Octagon Jr

Not normally a fan of the Luchador style, but this is terrific. Fast paced, high flying, pretty satisfying.

Lyra Valkyria v Becky Lynch

Becky is of course genuinely one of the greatest, and Lyria is quite possibly on the same road. And this has been a fun storyline to get the ring rust off Becky.

Right on; you're one of the good ones.

MitB? Yeah, it was alright, wasn't it. Empty seats was what the friend I watched with pointed out immediately.
Spoiler:

Rhea Ripley - great. Alexa Bliss - hmmmmmmm. Let's see where she's going. Giulia - great. Roxane Perez and Stephanie Va-....quer? - Both unfortunately dressed alike. A recently recurring problem with the WWE women's roster. Can't really warm to Vaquer; too much social media connections for my taste. Not a fan of the succubus horns in 2025. But I'm really picky. Perez is ok anyway, but I wouldn't necessarily want to see her pushed yet.

Valkyria vs Lynch - very good, extremely surprising result that I don't agree with. But maybe there'll be a nice Valkyria hunting for the title. I like her.

Mysterio vs. Octagon - absolutely ok. Mysterio is great, especially when paired with Morgan. Octagon is a very competent lucha man. Channelled his inner Pom Harajuku there for a bit. And who doesn't every now and then.

Men's MitB match: Perfectly ok. Everyone made an appearance, even Andrade and L.A.knight. Branded ladders are the devil. Other than that: Story stuff! The humorous solo Sikoa was very surprising, but not bad. Jeff Cobb! Very good. Breakker always good, of course. Winner - totally ok. Like 10 years ago. The whole WWE men's title stuff will be interesting when Cena is gone anyway; maybe Rollins will cash in on Cena right after he has defended his title at the World Championship or somewhere else and wants to take it with him. Instant-Faceturn.

Paul/Cena vs. Yeet-Man/Rhodes - ok. The drone spot was very, very good. Logan Paul is a wally.

I knew the R-Truth release was a work!

From what I've seen, the butts that were supposed to be in those seats had trouble getting across town from the AAA Worlds Collide event.

I did wonder if there were transport difficulties, as bunch of ringside seats were empty.

I know they normally go for a pretty penny like. But you’d think, where perhaps they’d not be sold for a televised event, they might bump up other ticket holders to make it less obvious?

Overall a pretty satisfying, if not actually stunning event.

But they really need to knock this Logan Paul drivel on its head. As I’ve said before, if you want a gimp nobody likes because they’re a gimp? Just rehire Enzo. Nobody likes him, and everyone likes seeing him botch.

Dirty Dom has worked really hard to be such an effective Heel. Logan Paul, by contrast, was simply never told “no” as a child.

Very good point. Dom is a great wrestling heel, Logan Paul is just a dink through and through.

Truth's release wasn't a work. the fed just realized that they made a mistake and re-signed him ASAP

if everything that fans say is a work actually was a work, then the writers at the fed would be the smartest people on the planet to plan and coordinate all of that

After having been corrected on two forums about my 'hot take' of that being a work, I shall refrain from using that term in the future!

All In! It was lovely. Long? Sure. But we don't have to watch stuff live nowadays. We can split it up. I prefer watching it all in one go of course, but that's usually not possible.

I also enjoyed ALL IN, but, as much as I like Toni Storm, I do want someone else to have the title for a while.

And not Megan Bayne.

By now I really like Toni Storm as well, because the in-ring stuff works now, and she fully made that character hers. She's not even "an insane film diva of times past" gimmick, she's just Timeless Toni Storm now. Good match too.

Really enjoyed the Women's Gauntlet Match as well.
Spoiler:
I was almost sure to see Maki Itoh or Shoko Nakajima there because TJPW did that show nearby, but nope. Either way, very entertaining match. Thekla hat a great outing, people love her, she's really good at working towards the camera. I actually had her chalked down as the winner of this, but I couldn't be happier with Athena getting the win. Mina Shirakawa is a star and a bloody good wrestler, great to see Syuri; hope that she becomes a regular with AEW (but then again I kinda don't becuase they don't have enough space for all their roster as is. Would have liked to see Nyla Rose or others of the original roster showing up.

Btw, big thumbs up to Tay Melo. This match made me remember why I liked her so much during her first run. More aggressive, shouty Melo!

Megan Bayne is a bit of an Unknown to me at this point. She's very impressive, surely a better wrestler than Jade Cargill, and I like her together with Penelope Ford. However, I don't see why Kamile for instance couldn't have taken on that role just as well or even better.

The men's gauntlet match was really good as well; Ricochet is amazing. Between the Briscoe match and this, I got to appreciate him SO much. He's amazing. That Mistico entrance. Really like the song. It's the kind of song Minoru Suzuki would have if he was a babyface. Did many people sing along? Kinda torn on how it ground the match to a halt. It was pretty cool, but EVEN Copeland hasn't done that so far. Even though it feels like he would in a heartbeat.

Trios Match was good fun.

TNT Championship match: What a shame about Adam Cole.
Spoiler:
Very nice for Rhodes. Wouldn't have wanted to see Guevara take that title, or Fletcher for that matter. Not a huge fan of that one.

Now the tag team match. Bucks vs. Ospreay and Strickland. On paper, this is the bee's knees. And it probably was. But I was entirely taken out of it by the horrible camerawork. Too many cuts, often way too closely zoomed-in (heads of people in shot cut off at the top galore), it was weird. I was very worried it would be like that for the rest of the show, but luckily it wasn't.

Omega-Okada: I'll have to watch that again.

The other tag Match (Hurt Syndicate, JetSpeed, Patriarchy) was okay.
Spoiler:
The winners make sense. It's funny that this was one of the few chances AEW had to get the titles off the Hurt Syndicate, but they still didn't. I mean from a very basic booking sense it makes sense, because the champions are very dominant and are very popular. I assume they'll hold the titles for quite a while, unless Strickland and Ospreay go straight for the titles.

Hangman Page vs Moxley: it was as to be expected, and it was good.
Spoiler:
(Never before I noticed that "All In" spells "Allin", ie Darby's first name. Should have been a little hint. The thing with him coming down via rope always looks a bit awkward; I could do without that. But then, I'm not a huge fan of his tobegin with, so maybe I'm biased.)

Commentator notes: Great to see and hear Jim Ross back. On a different note: I don't see the point in more than two commentators, let alone bloody four or five. It's unnecessary, it's distracting.
Honorable mention to Excalibur for mentioning that he's more of a Bluesky guy when Taz mentioned Twitter. Bluesky is the superior website.

It was a lovely show. Not quite up there with Double or Nothing I think, but worked great as A Big Show. The Big Shows usually aren't the best, they only gotta deliver, and this one did.
