Hey all,

I am putting together a bloodletter heavy army. I dont mind the standard blood red look, but I am intrigued by doing an althernative paint scheme for the sake of being different. Thinking of either going flesh/pale/blueish flesh style (think blood"less"letters) or black. A black, murderous swarming horde of letters sounds cool, but I think it would look like a mess on the tabletop.

The flesh I was considering is similar to this:

But I am having a hard time explaining or rationilizing myself into doing it from a fluff perspective. Then I fall back on.."oh well I will do a stadard red scheme." I'm over analyzing I know..I just want to have a nice looking and unique army. Thanks for any input.

I think an army with that scheme would be awesome to look at! The only change I would add is a splash of red somewhere to signify them as Daemons of Khorne, perhaps a red stripe running across their head or red warpaint and the like.

While it does say that Bloodletters are characterised by their blood red skin, there's nothing saying that this is a mandatory look for them - being Daemons, I can't see why they couldn't very well change their form in that regard.

I like it.
Go with that and go overboard with lots of blood effects.
I'm not talking about dipping the swords in blood red and splashing wazzdakka red everywhere.
Take a look at some nice gore/blood/spatter effects, I like Tamiya Clear Red and black ink, and go from there.
The contrast will be nice and clear and I reckon you'll have a sweet looking army.

Fluffwise, maybe they haven't 'fed' for a while.

100% agree! Love the idea of flesh-tone or sandy-toned bloodletters with well-placed, realistic blood spatter and drip effects! Shiny black nails, teeth and horns, maybe with highlights in purplish-blues. Orange-yellow eyes!

Kinda amping myself up to get my own bloodletters now.

You guys are so awesome! I love this community. I was leaning towards the pale flesh and I think I'm sold with lots of blood effect to emphasize they are demons of the blood God. Also their swords (hellblades) will definitely be a brighter loud red to further underscore this and add some pop of color. Also since I don't plan on edge highlighting the bodies, the sharp lines of the blade should provide me an opportunity to create some crisp lines on each model.

Any ideas on some fluff or background on why they aren't traditional. I suppose no manifestation of daemons has to be the same. I like the idea that they haven't fed or spilled blood in a while and have "weakened" or what not. Really cool idea from kolodotschko.

If anyone else has an idea they would to throw out there that i could run with, I would greatly appreciate it. But I got what I came here for. Thanks boys and girls!

Precisely this - you can absolutely leave them at that and nobody can tell you off for it, since Daemons are simply hosts of Warp Energy that reflect one of the Gods of Chaos. They could be bright pink for all it matters, provided that there is something that recognises them as Daemons of Khorne - I think red warpaint would be a great idea, either on their faces or across their entire hides.

This is a cracking idea indeed (well done Alex! ) - there isn't really much else I can suggest outside of "they're Daemons, git gud son", but I'd definitely take that and expand on it if you get any other ideas.

Happy painting, and be sure to show them off to us in the future!

I would say very much similar to the genestealer/human hybrids, these could be the result of a human world ransacked by the Heralds of Khorne, turning all human inhabitants to slaves and followers of the Blood God. While diminished in number due to constant sacking by the Inquisition and various space marine chapters (maybe Deathwatch to keep with the current darlings of GW), the Heralds decided to use their fleshy, worldly slaves as hosts instead of daemons from the Warp, possibly by making them drink the blood of the Blood God, or that of a lesser daemon. The result -- these fleshy-toned bloodletter/human possessed hybrids.

I really like white daemons of khorne, it suits them well. You don't need any kind of fluff reasoning, they are daemons, of chaos. They shouldn't be a uniform look to them. I'd introduce red through blood splatters, which would really stand out on the white skin.

I really like the paint scheme myself, it makes them look much scarier than those red crayon monsters you see everybody fielding. Warpaint is a good idea though, maybe look at some Polynesian tribal stuff or maybe even American Indian warpaint. As for fluff, a simple "Screw you, they're my dudes" might suffice.

"We have lost the element of surprise, and they do not fear us. Perhaps they will appreciate our devotion to the Emperor and our ruthless efficiency."
