Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to get an idea not only how to paint my chosen Craft world but also how much it will cost me in paint, brushes, and models.

I'd like to field a small starter army of Eldar but that's a topics for another post. My big concern is how to achieve the paint scheme for Altansar that I have in my head. I'm going for a sort of purple-ish red like in the codex, with lighter black and faded dark blue helmets and accents with some gold accents

So what would I need to achieve this paint wise including shading and brushes.I do own a Passage(I think that's how it's spelled) airbrush and I'm very open to using non citadel paint as well if that helps
Below is the image from the codex and an Autarch I found with very similar colors to what i'm after by Fourteekayphile on Tumblr

Well how new to painting are you? have you ever held a brush? I think i can tell you how to achieve what you are after. So before we go into how to paint it ill tell you what you will need

For the red almost a wine color, you are going to wait to prime probably white.

Then the following colors for the red
Khorne red
Screamer pink
Emperors children (Name? Its the bright pink for edge high lighting.)

For the fadded blue
Abadon black
Dark Reaper(GW) / Military blue(Reaper paints)

For the face mask:
paled wytch flesh (GW)

Eyes:
Khorne red
Waz dakka red
Wild riders red
Paled wytch flesh

To get your purple wine color
Prime white
Base Screamer pink (Maybe even khorne would need to actual play with it)
Wash with nulin oil
Highslight with screamer pink
Edge highlight in emperoros children

For the gun:
Base black
Highlight up into dark reaper/military blue

for the face
Base in paled witch flesh
Wash in nulin oil
Highlight up with palid witch flesh

To many unpainted models to count.

Part of me was thinking Red Scar.. or a similarly darkish Red.. and then wash with Druchii Violet.. which would give the darkening and the purplish tint.

Just a quick thought.

Looks a lot like the Astral Templars scheme seen below. It's a base of Screamer Pink, washed with Druchii Violet and highlighted with Pink Horror and then Emperor's Children.

From the above mentioned and pic of AoS model, I would guess that basing with a deeper red would be required to get the hue a little closer to the kind of wine color of altansar. Since screamer pink is relatively light and would take more of the wash color, a more potent red might be the way to go - maybe evil sums scarlet or wild rider red.

I do not own it, so I am not sure how it looks on models, but from GW's site, squig orange also has a bit of a purple-ish tinted appearance. Someone please correct me if it looks different on models.

Screamer Pink is the colour you're looking for for the basecoat. I'd then recess shade it with Agrax Earthshade and follow up with a highlight of Screamer Pink or Emperor's Children.

I use this formula for my Purity Seals, and the result looks identical to the Altansar scheme:

I'd suggest painting the mask with Zandri Dust, shading with Agrax Earthshade, and layering with Pallid Wych Flesh. The weapon casings and helmet look like Dark Reaper, and the eyes you can do by applying a tiny amount of White Scar into the centre of each eye socket before glazing the whole eye with Bloodletter. Finally the Spirit Stone - I'd get some Stormhost Silver and Soulstone Blue and apply them as suggested to get a nice result.

Hope this helps

I use it to highlight my Blood Ravens at the moment, it is definitely a shade of darker orange. Problem I have found with the Citadel system is that none of the paint swatches on GW's site look anything like they do in real life - it's always best to look at a conversion chart to see what the colour looks like.

Screamer Pink is NOT a light color and that is the technique GW used to paint that scheme in the 'How to Paint Stormcast Eternals' book.

Thanks for the advice on colours it was very helpful in flushing out the scheme.

I had no idea screamer pink was that dark of a shade it looks really good, I think I'll pick up a four guardian squad off eBay and try stuff out

I just wanted to ask one more I think a lite blue would be better for the eyes but there's a mountain of blue paint on GW'S site and I'm not got sure what to go with

As an example how could I achieve similar blues like what's on this warp spider (I'm a very inexperienced painter so I don't expect to match the effect)

Have you looked at Army Painter's Chaotic Red? Easy spray if you're going to highlight up to the colour you want (it's a bit on the dark brown side, but might be useful).
