Well I play Chaos currently and I just happen to have a mini-legion of terminators at my disposal. However due to current chaos book I rarely get to see more than ten of them at a time on the field.

So my questions are:

1. Can space wolves still take terminators as troops for any reason?
2. Can space wolves terminators still take combi-weapons?

Ive been out of the game for a while so I don't even know if Dark Angels can still take terminators as troops.

Thanks.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

1. Grey hunters, I think, can take terminator armour and they are troop choices.
2. I see no reason why they can't, unless they changed it recently

I think the Dark Angels can still have Deathwing armies.

But why on earth are you going loyalist! What is stopping you from running a full army of chaos terminators!?

We run Combined Arms Detachments and Allied Detachments only where I play. The only way that I know I could run an all Chaos terminator army would be to run unbound.

1) No, they cannot take them as Troops (Grey Hunters in general can't take terminator armour, only the unit champion), but you can take a Company of the Great Wolf detachment, which has no mandatory Troop requirement, and instead has a mandatory minimum of 2 Elites and a HQ.

2) Yes, they still have access to combi-weapons.

Dark Angels are in a similar place - they can't make them into Troops, but do get a detachment where you only need Elites and HQ. However, theirs is forced to start in reserve, so it's difficult to make a solo-Deathwing army (but not impossible).

Ah, well, then no, no all-terminator army for you. Sorry.

Are formations allowed? If not, are faction specific detachments allowed?
In the new Traitors hate book there is a formation of just terminators with a maximum of 50 terminators and a terminator lord (who gets his armour for free).

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Company of the Great Wolf detachment is an alternate CAD rather than a Formation.

It changes the requirements to be 1 HQ and 2 Elites choices, 2 additional HQ Choices and 6 further Elites choices and 3 Troops Choices.

1. I don't know of any way to take Wolf Guard Terminators as troops. There is a detachment in the Champions of Fenris supplement that has Elites and HQ as the requirement so you don't even have to take a troops choice. Grey Hunters / Blood Claws can take a Wolf Guard Pack Leader (Sergeant) who can take Terminator armor if desired.

2. Yes they can.

If you're only allowed to run CADs, then you're boned. FoC shenanigans went away when GW decided to just introduce new Detachments instead of shifting things around.

Currently the only faction with Terminators natively as troops is the Grey Knights.

No formations allowed and no unbound. CADs and Allies only. Someone out there sounded like theres a quasy-formation in the Space Wolf Book that allows you to run terminators. Maybe I could field that. Anyone have a little more detail on that Space Wolf termie detachment?

That's the Company of the Great Wolf Detachment people have been talking about. It has a minimum requirement of 1 HQ and 2 Elites instead of 1 HQ and 2 Troops. It's the primary source of SW cheese (namely you can field Iron Priests on Thunderwolves with the older codex for a full Thunderwolf army, or with the new one field Wulfens for your compulsory with the rest being Thunderwolves).

Is the detachment still only three Elite slots? Or is it more? Id look at the codex myself but they don't have it around where I live.

something like 8 elites slots.

And yes, you can field Bjorn in the HQ and take dreadnoughts for the elites, making an all-dread army.

It's not in the codex, but in the supplement "Champions of Fenris"

I don't suppose one of you would tell me if I have to buy one book or both. Not finding a lot of opponents these days anyway, but who knows fall is coming.

If you want to use the Elites thing, you'll need two books (three if you include the main rulebook):

This:

And this:

Chaos has access to formations where you can take nothing but termis. One is in the black legion book the other is in traitors hate.

i am in the same boat as you. I have an all chaos termi force and run them using the space wolves dex.

You need the Champions of Fenris book to do this as it introduces a unique detatchment to the wolves. Which is explained previously.

This does open alot of weapon combinations for you to use and gives you access to storm shields, plus the additional land raiders.

You need the regular Space Wolves dex as it gives you all the unit entries, points costs, etc. You need the Champions of Fenris for access to the detatchment rules and the artifacts. Word of note, if you build using CoF then you do not use the artifacts from the SW dex.

If memory serves me correct there are a handful of formations in CoF that are termi based and really nice.

I just wanna make it clear that these do not replace CADs so if your group is adamant on using only them, then these are technically not allowed either.
