What would the space marines do if they needed to fight on water? You have the Land Raider and predator for land, the Thunderhawk for air, but how do they fight on water?

I could imagine them going for an approach of raiding all enemy vessels of importance. A battleship is of little threat, and a carrier could either be raided, or just sunk by bombers or from orbit.
If actual naval vessels were needed I would imagine they give that task on to the PDF or other imperial guard outfits.

Aircraft (thunderhawks, stormtalons/ravens/etc) or land speeders can just do hit and runs if they just want to blow them up. Assuming they don’t just pop enemy surface combatants from orbit.
If there is something they need to capture, terminators DSing or assault marines jumping out of aircraft are another option. Assuming it’s not something large enough to land drop pods on.
But when you drop from orbit to where you need to be, there is not a whole lot of reason to worry about naval combat.
Land Raiders can also be sealed for subaquatic action.

Pdf, guard, and special units can have water based warships
But the marines, a ship is too slow for what they do.
There about lightening warfare. A boat is not that.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

The sheeps is need, necessary and conditio sine qua non to save whales.
And if the space marines need a ship they will need an eye patch too, obviusly. The Rainbow warriors have a long historial of service.

why would Marines NEED a boat? they can fly anywhere they need to go, and teleport or drop pod to locations. if Marines needed to take out a naval vessel they'd eaither use gunships to sink it...
or they'd just tepeort a squad of terminators aboard ship

Pretty much this. Even now, as far as I'm aware the primary use of navies is to transport planes and missiles. On a planet with less water than earth there would be minimal use for them, let alone 38,000 years in the future

I wouldn't be surprised if the Marines do have naval assets in their armouries if the circumstances require them. We've obviously not heard of them yet, but that doesn't preclude them ever existing, if GW decide they want to make a wet-naval game.
A Marine Chapter based on a world dominated by oceans, whose fortress-monastery is a fleet of huge ships? I could see that. Their tactics might be more shifted towards air-inserted infantry assaults rather than armoured columns due to a lack of available training areas for tank crews.
