I get how the hades drill does the drilling.
And it is obvious how the Deff rolla does its rolling.
But how is the new GSC Rockgrinder ever going to grind trough a stone barrier. I am no miner nor an engineer but I just don't get it, it seems the thing would just drill 3 big holes, 5 small holes and then get stuck with its ram against the wall. Am I missing something ?

I guess it used to have more drills, but some were replaced by more armour?

It isn't there to drill a tunnel, it's there to drive up and damage things.

The only think I can think of is that the faceplate is driven against the wall, then the vehicle reverses and blasting charges are placed to bring down the section in question.
More likely it's just that the designers didn't really want to create a massive tunnelling machine like this:

I guess with the same thing as the Goliath. With 40K magic that's how.

Best guess as a LARPer who tried making a goblin juicer... the two large assemblies on the end push rock and grind it, throwing the rocks towards the middle. The 5 smaller assemblies help break up large chunks and spurs while the large central assembly on the bottom finishes breaking up what pieces may be large before the gravel flows back down and goes under the teeth.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Looks like it's for walls and structures. Not solid rock. It breaks it by ramming it then the grinders push it to the sides.

It is designed to drive through rubble, not to create tunnels.

Turn those barricades to powder with their 'realistic' Rock crusher 1 click bundle! Buy 3 rock crushers and use all those blades and crushers on one vehicle model. Instant rock powder!
Really though, don't think about too hard.
Or turn your attention to the different sized stubbers that proliferate over the GW range.

don't forget the substantial seismic cannon thingy, it may well be that in it's mining incarnation that does most of the breaking up of stuff and the blade is just to shove the rubble out of the way

You mean like how the M2 .50 calibre, the LSW, the MG3, the RPD, the M60, the GPMG, the Maxim gun, the MG-08, the Gatling Gun, and the .30 calibre MMG are all totally identical in size and shape because they're all machine guns, right?
'Stubber' is a catch-all term for solid-shot semi-automatic explosive propellant firearms that are essentially identical to 20th Century automatic pistols, semi-automatic battle rifles, and machine-guns.
'Autoguns' are, technically, a catch-all term for solid-shot automatic explosive propellant firearms that are essentially identical to 20th Century machine pistols, sub-machine guns, and assault rifles.
Frankly there should be an even wider proliferation of shapes, types, calibres and variants of all sorts!
