Subject: KdK Juggernaut lord min maxing gearing him up.

So after min maxing for a long time I've came to find 3 variants of the juggerlord that are actually worth to take in a compatative environment and I find to like 1 most of the 3.
First of all this is a lord that it is going to run with either flesh hounds or spawn and he will not have psychic support so this is for a list without a Cabal. With a Cabal you will either take a herald not him or a juggerlord with the blood forged armor and you are done you have a guy to eat the challenges so we skip the Cabal lists.
So the 3 variants of the jugger lord that I have found viable are :
1 Juggerlord + 4++ + pf+ lc - 185 points T5 and he is solid for the prize tag but for me this guy is just sub optimal to what he could be.
2 Juggerlord + 4++ + pf+ lc + blood forged armor - 235 points. This guy has FNP and EW still I feel like I have to run this guy in a death star because a tau will just blow him off the table turn one or he is going to get focussed way too hard. With a cabal star this guy is a beast but without it I find him sub optimal
3 Juggerlord + 4++ + pf+ Kol'rath axe of ruin - 230 points. This guy is amazing. With the FAQ from gw saying summoned units can start on the ground this means if he dies in my opponent turn I can charge the Thirster right at him and make him cry. More important than that you get a unit that is ready to go right away. He does not have EW but he has a lot of ap2 attack on initiative if you know that he will not survive the fight and you can easily run him with 10 flesh hounds since he will not get focused as hard because of the freaking Thirster that will come out.
So guys what are your thoughts?

With Axe of Korlath you can maybe even drop the 4++, he has hounds to look out sir to and most people won't want to kill him in a challenge (at least not quickly). I'd personally drop the power fist too to further reduce his cost. PF only really helps against Armour and hounds with Furious Charge can flip rhinos and the PF won't really help you much against AV13 dreadnoughts anyway. Plus being cavalry you can probably dodge most sources of AV13 except knights.
The gold standard for comparison is LC/PF nurgle lord on bike which is ~170 points. I'd be trying to keep the points cost around there and get the same kind of value (though in this case it comes from cleaning house on regular infantry and summoning a bloodthirster when you die).

Don't discount a LC+Goredrinker combo. It was true before, but the FAQ made it concrete, that wounds made with the lightning claw will add to and be affected by the Goredrinker bonuses. I've killed Soul Grinders in melee with my lord after chopping through some other beasties.

Yeah the LC + Goredrinker is the best option imo. It does depend on "charging up" the LC by killing some weak infantry first but after that the stats start to get crazy.
The kor'lath build is slightly different to the others as you almost want him to die which affects the rest of his load out and how you play him. I once gave a lord just this axe and a bike and drove him straight at enemy lines daring my opponent to kill him. Automatically Appended Next Post: Don't forget a combat familiar on your Goredrinker Lord as well as that counts towards the tally too

Personally I always run my Lord on a bike with korlath and that's it. Join it to a unit of fleshounds from the inevitable gorepack and shove it down whatever 2+ armour you can find.
Personally I think the juggernaut is a waste of points but if you must run it with the axe of khorne, pf, and 4++ in a death star. I don't like goredrinker on anything but a DP cause that unwieldy sucks. LC can mitigate that greatly but I'm not sure if it would eventually confer I'D on LC or just the gore drinker.

HOW is the Juggernaut a waste of points? The extra attack and wound are more than worth the price of admission.

You're not using goredrinker at all. Think of it as a buff to whatever weapon you want. All the effects carry over to any other weapons you have, so unless you really need that AP 2 from goredrinker, it can just sit there on your back all game long.
And I agree with Slayer-Fan 123, the juggernaut is amazing, +1 attack, +1 wound and it turns you into cavalry with all the perks that comes with. You don't even have to pay for the mark in KDK so in a way it's even cheaper than for vanilla csm. How could that be a waste of points Oo?

Ahh I didn't know you could get ID on the LC using goredrinker. Need to study my FAQs harder.
In regards to the juggernaught: I almost always use the Lord as a character sniper/korlath delivery so I don't want to put too many points on a model I know will eventually die, fair enough? no point in getting the axe if korlat comes out turn 7.
If i really want to make the Lord last longer an extra fleshound in his unit (16+bike=36) which will give the unit 2 more attacks and 2 more wounds vs a juggernaught which only confers one of each for 45 points. I'm interested to hear the argument against my reasoning though. Always trying to keep an open mind.

The thing to remember is that Cavalry gain Fleet, Bikes do not. So by putting a Bike lord in a Hound unit, the Hounds cannot use Fleet to re-roll charge distance. This can be the difference between making a charge turn 2, or dying to your opponents shooting. Well worth the price of the Jugger

That makes sense. Do you think it's more effective for cost to build out a mega-lord or just throw korlath and a bike on it?

Yeah I'd say for the Fleet reroll (as mentioned above), that Korlath Jugger and nothing else is the way to go.
