Can the side sponsoons on the SM Predator be magnatized so the weapons be intertagable?
Can the weight hold it.. I use the small 4mm rare earth magnets

Easily.
I used a 3mm (or the closest non-metric equivalent) and a nail head on the other side. So not even a two magnet bond. Works just fine.
A better modeler then I would have filled the gap and sunk a magnet onto the gun side. This was one of my early projects.

I've written about my experiences in magnetising a predator here - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/700058.page#8866035
But Nevelon's right, don't do what I did and try to magnetise the two halves of the weapons, just magnetise where they attach to the sponson as he's done. I usually use 2mm magnets and they're more than strong enough to hold the weight of plastic parts.

That's a great tutorial.
Interesting how there's been 3 replies and 3 different ways of magnetising the sponson guns. I like the idea of winterdyne's way, but feel it's a bit trickier to pull off. Tempted to try both Nevelon's and winterdyne's and see how they go and compare to both the difficulty and end result of my way (which I'm become less and less happy with thanks to you guys!)

For a 4th way, I magnetized the whole door assembly that holds the sponson

IIRC my whole door assembly is just stuck on with stickytac. So I could (in theory) pop the sponsons off an field it as a rhino. I never have in years, to the point where I’m not sure if that’s what I actually did. I always could use the Pred’s firepower, and found my pair of old rhinos was enough for the points I was playing.
But in these days of formations and free rhinos in full company lists, I could see the need to have every hull available for use.

I have no idea why I magnetize everything, given that I don't play the game. I magnetize the doors so they can open and hinge out, was not difficult to add magnets to swap out the sponsons too - I never even considered sticky tack

Stickytac was what I used in the old days, before magnetism was discovered. Before you could get anything you desired delivered through the new fangled inter-tubes, you could alway get sticky tack at the local drug store. I actually used some to hang a poster recently, it’s intended use, but it didn’t stick. The stuff is great for swapping stuff out if you don’t feel up to sinking magnets, or other fiddly modeling work. I used to keep some in my case for when heading down to the FLGS. It also works for sticking parts back on a model that break off halfway though the game!
