I'm sure I am not the only one to think of this, but why isnt there a tabletop play style 40k game on pc or console? I know there is Total War: Warhammer, but it's real time, and not turn based. I think it would be cool to be able to select a squad, and have a movement arrow of how far they can go, show if whatever weapon is in range, etc... If everything was laid out on PC, I think the game would play out more smoothly if all options are available on screen for whatever you are doing. Being able to see units and squad actually fire at their targets, seeing facial expressions, explosions, movement, etc... would make this more appealing imo.

I know there is a chance it may take away people from tabletop, therefore the game would have less physical interaction socially at the events and home. However, I have an idea to benefit both pc/console version, and tabletop.
Just make it to where you have to register actual, physical units to a Games Workshop location. If you want other units, you have to buy them and register them (newer units could have some kind of code in the box to register online instead of in shop).
When you buy the game, you get a model starter army with the game (however many points tbd obviously). That way, you can still have an army and go to events or friends houses and play tabletop... Or stay home and play against people world wide, with
the same set of rules.

I have thought about this for quite some time now and I finally decided to possibly pursue it.. Just trying to get reactions and feedback on the idea to see if it would be a success or bust.
Let me know what yall think

as a side note... i dont mean have the pc style game set on an actual table in game.. Make full battlefields so it feels like you are actually on another planet or whatever. And not exactly use "inches" for movement, but have distance able to travel shown on an arrow or some type of marker

I think GW would indeed be concerned that this competes too much with their own game.

I can't possibly see this work.

It might work best using an XCom style grid-based movement system, with an option to select the entire squad a given model belongs to... but I don't see this working with having to pay GW's over-inflated prices on models in order to use them in a virtual environment.

I also don't see this working if it uses the current iteration of the rules, mainly because not only are there a lot of them in a horribly-convoluted mess, but also because there's a lack of balance across the Codices, and within them as well. This besides the fact that some rules, as currently written, fail to actually function.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

who'd buy it? I doubt there's much market for a turn based stragety, especially one as simple as a direct translation of 40k would be

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

It's sort of what you're asking for anyway.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

There used to be a turn based 40k game back in the 90s called Final Liberation.

I remember it being ver very buggy, but it did have FMV cut scenes.
