Yaho,

Pretty simple;

Do void shields count as vehicles or buildings?

Specifically; a unit of imperial fist devastators has both tank hunters and modifications to the damage roll when shooting buildings, along with an extra bonus to the same effect when in a Sternhammer Strike force. When shooting at, say, a bastion with a void shield, which bonuses apply?

I see four possibiities:

1. none of them, as a void shield is neither a tank or a building, it merely has an armour value
2. Tank hunters, because it's an AP roll
3. IF building bonuses, because the original target is a building
4. all of them

Since void shileds are coming back somewhat I figure it would be good to know in advance.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Neither. Theyre void shields

Agreed. You are specifically hitting and damaging the void shield instead of hitting the building. You kind of have to treat them as a seperate entity

This goes double when you get into void shield generators with projected void shields, not the stronghold assault 'bolt on' shields; you are essentially resolving damage against a piece of wargear equipped to a fortification which is not the original declared target of your shot. Trying to resolve whether stuff like preferred enemy should apply is a bit of a minefield.

Therefore I generally go with '1'.

On the plus side, that does mean you're not shooting at the building, which means Grav shots can be used to clear shields, even if they can't (if I remember right) hurt the building underneath.

Grav would do nothing on shields either.

Grav does not generate glancing nor penetrating hits, merely immobilized and loss of hull point. Shields have no hull points and collapse when glanced or penetrated.

In the new FAQ I remember reading they do

2000 6000 with Reaver Titan guard 2k
2500 (imperial force)
2500 (trimming down in 8th)
TS 30k at 5k points
Yes I have a problem

In the new FAQ I remember reading they do
From the first round of FAQs on Terrain:
Q: Do Gauss, Melta, Haywire, and Graviton special rules affect void shields?
A: Yes. Graviton hits cause the field to collapse on a roll of 6.

Currently until those faq's lose their draft status, they are not actual rules or rulings. so in all retrospect, guass, melta, haywire, and graviton have no effect on a void shield.

That is why my LGS don't use them because they are not legal for the game yet.

They're legal if the players decide they are.

Graviton is the only one that wouldn't have an effect on void shields if you treat them as a vehicle(which you should due to AV).

All the others cause penetrating or glancing hits, or adds to the likelihood of getting such a hit.
