Lesser Daemon of Chaos

Right, I've been planning on future buys for my orks, and I've made my mind up that I will at some point get 1+ stompas. Only problem with that is I keep hearing about stompa types that are outdated/are in a rulebook that is not available anymore/ are only really usable through serious rules-lawyering and cheesing or otherwise unsportsmanlike use of under-priced models. I only ever play friendly games, so not interested in stompas that TFG would try and field.
Any help? what stompas are currently legal/where can I find the rules?
Thanks in advance!
PS I know about the codex one and the Dreadmob buzzgob "upgrade" (personally I find it a bit tasteless to bring a 400pt stompa to a friendly game - waaay too cheap). I've heard of a kustom stompa but no idea where to find it, and some old named stompas which I'm not sure are really applicable to 7th rules.
PPS while I'm at it, where can I find the rules for a battlewagon with supakannon?

IA8 had kustom Stompa rules in it, if I recall. It's a bit dated though. They had an update for 6th edition as a download at one time, but that disappeared from their site since then.
IIRC, IA8 was also where you'd have a battlewagon with a supakannon.
EDIT: There's one for sale on ebay now http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40k-Forgeworld-Imperial-Armour-8-Raid-on-Kastorel-Novem-Elysian-Orks-/311698694658?hash=item4892b0a202:g:Y-UAAOSw-itXsasR

That's the page! Unfortunately it 's not for the most recent Ork codex and it just refers you to the Escalation book for Stompas (when that and the earlier Apocalypse were the only GW sources for this). Shame they didn't list the battlewagon with the supakannon in this, only the Big Trakk with Supakannon.
Looks like they don't let you use the kustom Stompa rules any more (or the battlewagon with supakannon), at least until (or if) they update this or put another IA book with Orks in it.

When are orks getting another IA book? The next one (IA16) isn't going to have them, so when are FW going to fill out the ork clan roster?
Ranting aside, the rules in the actual IA8 haven't been superseded as far as I can tell, nothing else newer is called a kustom stompa, so those rules are probably the best way to field a stompa.

I've emailed FW about IA8 many times, and get nothing but stony silence. Something happened right about the time Roundtree took over GW, and neither forgeworld nor GW are updating books anymore. It seems like FW is clearing the deck of new 7th ed rules for 8th, but nobody has any info on that.
The +300 point stompa is a misprint, though ITC and others allow it just fine, not sure why.

The 300 point Buzzgob Big Mek Stompa is not a misprint. They had a statement that came out claiming this but it was retracted because it is +300 on top of getting Buzzgob. Use Da Big Lugga (Buzzgobs Big Mek Stompa) by taking buzzgob at 100 then +300 for the upgrade to Lord of War spot. Any competitive/tournament list will have this. It'll be up to you if you want to upgrade his Destroyer arm for a deffcannon or add the belly cannon to him.

IA8 was, I think, the lowest selling IA. I don't see them redoing it tbh.

Well, look how many IA volumes it took them to getting around to putting out one thing for the Eldar. I'm guessing they're going to cycle through again much later, probably when they decide to make some more new Ork models and units.
The problem I see is that even though there's no "kustom stompa", there IS a listing for Stompa that supercedes the earlier listings, so you would need to follow those if using a Stompa. Also, there's no listing for "kustom stompa" on their Lords of War list on the update, so you would need that to be able to use a kustom stompa by RAW. It's something that if you wanted to try to use the old kustom Stompa rules you would definitely have to check with your opponents for permission first
For the other listings you just have to reference different pages, or in the case of Looted Vehicle the one White Dwarf that had the rules. At least they kept Kustom Battle Fortress for something "kustom", if that floats your boat.

Why don't you use a codex stompa variant? It's overpriced but it's right in the codex.

The stompa in the codex is absolute garbage compared to Buzzgobs Big mek stompa. Not only is it overpriced, but you'll always lose your main gatling gun either turn 1 or 2, and the extra points spent on it isn't worth some of the weapons it comes with. You can't go wrong with Buzzgobs version in ITC and it's not impossible to deal with. Definitely helps ork players a lot.

Looks like you just go with a Big Mek Stompa for 400 points plus whatever you pay in upgrades (100 for Buzzgub, +300 to replace him with the Big Mek Stompa from 40k Apolcalypse, and get the extra benefits it tells you for having Buzzgub's Kustom Stompa) as a Lord of War choice, like it says in the update download.
Do you go Kustom Meka-dread as an HQ unit,Big Mek, or Painboss to give some Spanna Boyz cybork bodies?
