Anyone who's played GW games for any length of time knows they're renowned for being one of the least consumer friendly companies in existence, their pricing is obnoxious in general, but this is jumping the shark even for GW. The new genestealer cult pricing has to be some sort of joke. $70 for a box of guardsman with different heads? What's next, "GW brand dice, only $135 per die."

I thought i'd seen it all, but i hope no one is buying this garbage.

On GW US site the box of Guardsmen + Genestealer sprue is $45.

Doesn't it come with a heavy weapon squad too?

Looks like it does, I don't know if the regular box has that too though. What is bugging me about them is the models are so cheap points-wise. So you end up buying several of the same boxes. That and the fact they keep putting those ridiculous "web bundles" that save no money.

OP probably fell victim to the "Let's reset the country flag to Australia for no reason" curse; it's $70 in Dollary-doos.

Of course, $45 for a squad that's what,70 points is a bit hard to swallow even then.

The GW prices are sad, yes.
What's even sadder, however, is that people ARE buying the overpriced sets!
I don't get it, 66 euros for the Genestealer Cults Acolyte & Neophyte Hybrids, the box you are referring to.
Buy a set of guardsmen and a couple of Chaos Cultist heads and switch the heads from the Guardsmen box with the Cultist ones and ta-daaaaaa!

The prices are really bad for a lot of units, yes.
But there's also been a lot of complaints regarding GW's apparent "We like this army, so they become OP.".

Thank god for retail shops.
I have a couple nearby that buy directly from GW but sell for -15% so that saves me some tears.

Interestingly though from what I've been reading, the GSC book is pretty well balanced. It's strong, with some tricks (something about being able to pop up anywhere?), but nothing egregiously overpowered. AKA how an army should be; a solid choice but not broken. That alone makes me kinda want to get them, because my main choice is Chaos and we all know how they are right now.

Yes, but I don't like daemons. I like my Traitor Legions, and even with TH they aren't that good.

Genestealer Cults look really interesting though. I am very tempted just the price for an actual army is a bit offputting.

You go to the site, say "holy crap those guardsmen are $70?!?!" only to realize that's Australian. Then you switch to american and realize it's *only* $45

It does not. The regular Cadian squad can build the following combinations:
10 Lasgun equipped models(this isn't legal in the IG book as you do not have the option to equip a Sergeant or Veteran Sergeant with a Lasgun anymore); one of which has a Vox-Caster.

Heavy Weapons have not ever been part of the vox, regrettably. That's why they sold the Heavy Weapons Team box(which is the $16 box included now) for $10 and had it as a regular stock item for a long while. It's Direct Only now.

Try playing actual Imperial Guard sometime.
The core infantry formation for the Cadian detachment is the Emperor's Shield Infantry Company.
That consists of:
A Company Command Squad[5 models]
3x Emperor's Shield Infantry Platoons(each of which consists of 1-3 units of Sentinels[1 to 9 models], a Platoon Command Squad[5 models], and an Infantry Platoon with the maximum 5 squads[50 models])
So you're looking at 15 infantry squads for 150 models, 4 Command Squads for another 15 models, and anywhere from 3 to 27 Sentinels.

That does not include any Special Weapon Squads, Heavy Weapon Squads, or Conscript Platoons you might choose to take as part of your Infantry Platoons.

Either way, the mailman is charging extra for having to avoid the plethora of venomous animals that secretly run that country.

The funny thing is I'm making more money than I ever have before, and I usually have a good chunk of money to spare. Hell, past like two weeks alone I've dropped like close to $300 at the GW store (~$160 worth of stuff to round out a small CSM force, and then like $100 on the General's Handbook and a Realm of Battle Board for Armies on Parade). So I could, likely over like a month or two, probably have a good $500 or so to spend on Genestealer cults if it struck my fancy...

So I've done some reading, I am really trying to talk myself out of (or maybe into?) buying into GSC. I never put it together before, but I realized a very Lovecraft vibe from them, so I'm sorely tempted to do a sort of homage to my favorite Lovecraft story, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and have a GSC that is loosely based on the Esoteric Order of Dagon, because it basically hits all the points from that and gives that same sort of vibe.

Yeah I just put together ~2000 points of Space Marines and Imperial Knights and that was brutal. The Renegade Knights box that comes with two for $195 was a life saver

It works the other way down here, you check out the new stuff on the GW site "wow those are reasonably priced, I could totally start a new army!"
and then, once you are keen and your mind is full of lists, conversions and paint jobs...you realise the site has defaulted to US$ and everything is actually going to cost you double that...but now you have hopes and dreams for a new army...and your willpower...is slipping...away...

Hahah, yup. My region randomly reset. They're still really pricey compared to most of the other model lines, but not nearly as bad as I thought. Damn you GW for your website sorcery.

No he's refering to the neophite hibrits box that costs 45 euros as it includes 10 guardsman (27euros) the heavy weapon team (10 euros, and it's not included in the guardsmen box) and the upgrade sprue (5 euros).

The box you're referring to are 15 models, 5 of which cost almost the same as space marines in game's points.
