Hi there everyone. Long story short, i want to play kill team with a couple of friends but I cannot for the life of me decide on what to play. How do all you indecisive people choose something ?! Don't say buy everything haha.
I preferably want to grab a Start Collecting box due to funds.
So what made you settle on your final choice?

I try to balance visual aesthetic and current meta playability.
It's nice to have 2-3 forces you can rotate so you don't get bored and bring the same thing to every game. Good thing with Kill Team is you can totally have 4-5+ and not break the bank.

Welcome to DakkaDakka for a start The best part of Kill Team is that you only need a single box of models most of the time - 2 or 3 at max. The Start Collecting sets are a great idea since they're good value and can also take you up to a small, non Kill-Team game. Either if you go with a SC set or a single box, I say go with what catches your eye and what interests you. If you get stuck over two factions in the end, roll a dice to see which you pick. If you don't like the answer, you have your answer Hope this helps; there's no right or wrong answer when you're just playing with your mates, and having fun is the priority. For me, I've just picked stuff I like the look of and enjoy from their lore. G.A

I pick too many things, then force myself to pick which one I like best and stick with it best I can. Usually after a while of indecisively starting different things, but kill team level games wouldn't be that bad to be indecisive on at least.

From the way your post is worded, I'm kind of getting the feeling you don't have an army yet and you and your friends are getting started with Kill Team. If that's the case, awesome, I love Kill Team! If that's not the case, just start with some of what you have. One thing I thought of reading your post - be careful with the start collecting boxes if your goal is just Kill Team, as some of what you'll get in those boxes is not Kill Team legal. Of course, if you and your friends have no problem with that, then it's perfectly okay! House rules exist for fun! And really, pick an army that appeals to you in whichever way is most important to YOU. A lot of people will tell you "Go with what looks the most appealing to you" and I don't think that necessarily always means visually. Do some research on the factions' stories, check out the summaries of strategies each army utilizes (1d4chan is a good site for this IMO), and decide what aspects are most important to you and go from there. As far as getting the Start Collecting boxes, though, here are the ones that it looks like you could make a legal 200 point kill team with out of just that box (someone add to this if I'm wrong): Tau (You can load up the crisis suits as needed to get to 200 points after including whatever number of fire warriors you'd like) Tyranids (probably have to put a few upgrades on the warriors but the warriors + gargoyles is 150 points in battlescribe - BTW Battlescribe is a good app to get, it's not always 100% accurate, but it's consistent enough to give you a good idea on points costs) Dark Eldar (I thought about getting this one myself - The warriors with a few upgrades plus the raider should get close to 200 points) Militarum Tempestus (I think - use the command squad models as regular troops to fill it out if you need to) Necrons (The only way to do this is using only the warriors and scarabs) Every other SC box comes with too many things that will either not be legal to be fielded in Kill Team specifically (but hey with your friends you can decide to change anything you'd like) OR will put you far past 200 points baseline (but again, you and your friends can decide to do kill team games at a higher points limit if you'd like) Hope this helps! Addendum: Buy everything.

Try something new that you wouldn't normally get to use in your current army or would have to spend a fortune to amass a big enough army normally. That's the glory of kill team.
Orks or Guard.

I highly recommend against going to 1d4chan for any tactical advice. It is shoddy at best.

I actually went back and edited my post - the summaries served me well in deciding what I wanted to start. The tactics articles aren't that bad to me, they just can easily be out of date. Otherwise for the most part they seem fine, it's just quick rundowns of most things really. Don't copy-paste your strategy from it, but it gives condensed info in one spot to give you a general idea.

I've returned to basics... troops. They were a required mainstay and have gone away with many formations. I've tried to take a single tactical squad, but found two 5 man marine squads are better with a special weapon and combi weapon sergeant.
I've also broke out my orcs, harlequins, tyranids, blood angels, space wolves, dark eldar, etc from all the past starter sets and scenario sets. It's great to actually use the stuff and have some semblance of balance if taking full troop squads (vs the minimalist who then loads up on elites or tau bs).
Kill team is the return to simplostic fun version of the game. It's also great to start a new army as you can buy one squad and use it. Then add on slowly but surely other units usable in your kill team games. Eventually you will have started an army in an affordable and usable manner.

I don't so much mind the advice, just a lot of it is like memes/trolling/weird names for stuff so it's sometimes hard to tell what the hell they are talking about.

Great thing about kill team is that it's not a big investment. From the sounds of your post- you're starting with kill team. Good place to start playing! Read up a bit and find something you like the look and feel of.... Beware- it gets addicting, and you'll start buying more and more ....
Me myself- I don't have good advice on what to pick.. I'm the indesecive type- but I have so many armies and so many units- I just play something else each time.
