Ok guys so after a while away from gw I picked up the bac set at the weekend after looking at it for a while and making a return to the hobby with a space wolves force. What would you say is the best way to build this set up. I've only built the captain (jarl) and put together 7 guys from a ten man squad. Don't have the read book yet as notice it's out of stock.
Obviously that leaves me with nothing to go on for force structure. Any help would be great. Ps being wolves I'm looking for lots of axes lol

The rules for the Sons of Russ arent out yet, late this year-early next year, so you might want to wait a bit. But you could always build the 30 Marines as two 15 Man Tac Squads or 3 ten man Veteran Tac Squads.

I think I would build them out as 3 x 10-man vet squads with the same heavy and same special weapons. that would give you 27 bolter-armed tac marines and 3 heavy/3 special weapons which you can expand through other bits or kits from FW. I'm using the BaC marines to make Blood Angel assault marines, but I have magnetized all of the arms and will magnetize the backpacks once my jump packs arrive.

The Vet Tac Heavy Weapons are a good option.

Yeah was planning to build them up as three tac squads. Am using 40k wolves parts to add a bit of flavour. Although not as much bling as 40k. Thought I'd do a plain list until the rules and characters start coming out.

I borrowed liberally from my 40K Blood Angel bits. Between the MK IV heads and MK IV jump packs, I should be close enough for government work.

Yep saves a fortune on buying the fw bits, is there a standard force chart in the red book the will get me by until a wolves book/ rules set .

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000/Tactics/Space_Marine_Legion_List_(30k)#Force_Organization_Charts_for_the_Age_of_Darkness_.2830k.29

Compulsory: 1HQ, 2 Troops
Optional: +2HQ, +4 Troops, +4 Elites, +3 Fast Attack, +3 Heavy Support, +1 Fortification, +1 Lord of War

They have more on everything there, but to sum it up, since the Wolves dont have their LA Rules yet, you can chose for them to have Stubborn or Furious Charge. Also remember that the Tactical Squad of 40k only exists as an Elites Choice in 30k. 30k Tac Squads are 10-20 Marines armed with bolters.

Squad organization is significantly different in 30K. This merits some considerations about how you build for 30K while preserving the flexibility to use in 40K. I have most of my figures magnetized at the shoulders.

Tactical squads, heavy support squads, tactical support squads are all weapon pure, meaning that they are all armed with the same heavy or special weapon. Support and Heavy squads start at 5 with options to expand.

Veteran tactical squads have the option to take 2 special/heavy weapons like you can in 40K.

So, you will need a lot of bolter armed marines in 30K, but these won't see much use in 40K.

Thought it would be along those lines. Damn the betrayal box really is a good set. Put the Heavy bolter in the first squad I'm building but if there's going to be that many bolter armed marines I'm now thinking I should have gone for the launcher for anti vehicle. Guess I could fit the special weapon guy with a plasma gun to give them a chance .

Build one with Two Heavy Bolters and one with two Missile Launchers.

I gave all of my tactical vet squads ML and plasma gun.

Yeah il give another squad launchers. Are there any other upgrades worth taking. Or even if anyone has a list to hand minus points.
Second question is it worth mounting a 3rd squad armed with plasma guns and melts bombs in a rhino.

A guy I play with regularly runs a melta support squad in a pod. Honestly, at this point, before we have any line of sight to what Space Wolves will get, built your vet squads and maybe think about magnetizing the sergeant and the two heavy weapons. That should give you a ton of flexibility later without going crazy now. I think you will always need Rhinos adn pods, but you may already have those from 40K

Yeah have some packed away in the loft somewhere. Did put my hand on an unbuilt Rhino and Predator. Will pick up the fw mk1 Rhino soon as prefer the older style. Wish I never got rid of my old gw mk1s now.
