Dakka,

Which of the following would you say is the more competitive list? (Note: Death from the skies is not in use in my gaming group) Also, if you have any comments they would be appreciated.

In both lists the platoon command squad sits in a vendetta to be dropped off to contest anything in the end game, the CCS sits with the infantry platoon to give orders and to gun down any high toughness or hard to kill units that get too close, the conscripts run out to die and contest and claim objectives, and the veterans remain the mobile reserve. I currently run List A and am wondering whether I should transition to List B. The missions I tend to play are a non-rulebook specific type, but something of a cross between maelstrom and eternal war, similar to ITC rules.

What do you play more, Eternal War or Maelstrom?

I prefer using ACs over LCs in Platoons. I did the tri-LCs for a while but its not worth it anymore.

The Conscript squad is too big imo, 30 is a good number before its unweildy.

ADL with a Comms Relay would be good to help your reserves. As would a Spec Weapons team to drop out of a Vendetta.

I play neither. They are a mix of the two, being that to win the mini eternal war mission or the mini maelstrom will each net you one point, coupled with tertiary objectives.

I take your point re: the conscripts. It's more just to present and unkillable blob that space marine bikers and cav (the meta in my group) will have a hard time to get around to assault pask and my platoon.

Why would you say the triple lascannons are not worth it, if they are twin linked and taking orders?

Points taken re: the special weapon squad and ADL.

So ITC type rules then? In that case you definitely need to add units with dynamic entry to get down field, Chimeras are unlikely to achieve this. Suggest a small Scion squad or two, infiltrating Assassin and/or small squad out of the flyers (SWS with a couple flamers maybe)

The reason I say not worth it - its an inefficient return in points, nearly a 400pt investment (platoon & psyker). With ACs you can target medium AV/ high T stuff at long range and then at shorter range pop off First Rank, Second Rank and bury the non-vehicle stuff in high volume shots.
Rapier or Sabre batteries can do the TL Lascannon shots for far cheaper.

You definitely need reserve manipulation if you're sticking to twin Vendettas, thats way too many points to risk being stuck in reserve. This is why ADL would be so good here, get the Comms + you can bunker down your Inf Platoon and Wyverns behind it for a save.

Lastly, consider swapping out a Vendetta for a Deathstrike. Try it out, I find it really potent vs Biker/Cav deathstars.
