Could anyone suggest a good list to aim for that's relatively cheap to make? I've been thinking of making a corsair army for a while, but seeing the codex I have no idea on where to begin.

Thanks, Braton

As you can tell from your replies buddy this army is not getting a lot of love. I love it and have used it with harlies and eldar. But you have to ask your self this... how much work are you willing to put in? Very little is available for corsairs so you are modding things to make them. What are you playing for.. tournies or for fun? What are some armies you will see? do not tailor your list to them but again.. having a bunch of anti armor and all you play is foot lists.... just good questions.

I think another downside to Corsairs is that they are not part of "mainstream" 40K. I have been playing "Corsairs" since before they had rules and before Allies. I simply use Eldar & Dark Eldar units to represent my own custom Corsair fleet.
But despite having all my DE & CWE units modeled and painted to be used as Corsairs, I still stick to the rules for DE & CWE. There really isn't much appeal for me to use the Corsair rules over regular Eldar with a splash of DE units added in (specifically Venoms Spam & Reavers). It is especially a put-off for me to know that I'll have to explain what units do what to almost every opponent.

That said, I think Corsairs would be really fun to play. The main thing you need to figure out is (as mentioned above) is what units you want to use and thus need to proxy.

The army has some really fun but odd rules too. I agree with Galef though I have to explain a lot of what it does to my opponent. lol I actually printed off a couple pages of rules to give to my opponent. The void dreamer powers make people look at me like I am crazy... so you can deep strike them .. then attack??? yes... yes I can!!

(The new sm/csm psychic powers are way more powerful than those of the void dreamer.)

I think the interest of the army lies in the Corsair prince and the builds you can make around its 'obsessions'.

There's is a great (=fun) combo with webway portal DE archon and multiphase key generator (MKG). Basically, you can arrive via the web way TWICE, since you can go back in ongoing reserve with the MKG. For this, you need to open a lot of MKG portals around the table with barons on jet bike, for example. You can also deploy on the table first turn, open a portal and have a guaranteed deep strike on turn 2 (without rolling) with all your deepstriking units. With eldar, you do this with fire dragons or wraithguards (with an attached archon). It makes a fun, fluffy, mobile list that is in no way as cheesy as dual warp hunters with lynx and spider spam. So you can keep your friends! Also, Voidstorm band with jetpack and dual dissonance pistols, while very expensive (350 pts for 10 t3 models), will help you with death star.

Or with two CAD and two princes 'collecting treasures', you can have both the relics from Dark eldar and Harlequin for a combined -4LD malus around them, on a jetbike platform. It opens certain interesting builds, like psychic shriek spam, etc. (Or combo this with the two C'tan shards, one for another -2LD, the other for an undeniable ~psychic shriek. Or combo with 'freakshow' units.)

Personally I would go with the MKG build. Conversions aside, it is not very expensive ($) since the units are expensive pointwise. But the optimal combo requires : archon, kabalites (taxes), farseer, jetbikes (at least 4 units as troop requirement), wraith guards, harlequins for voidstorm band.

The only thing that comes close to this claim is on page 161, Warp Tunnel. And it is *not* an attack from Deep Strike nor Reserves. Warp Tunnel merely allows a more like Veil-then-attack mechanic. The unit has to be on the table to use the power.

Eldar have enough hate without misinformation getting out there and making it worse.

As for Original Poster Braton:

I came up against a nasty list that was maxed out Wasps (the war walkers), with jetbike and farseer/prince support. Looked like a lot of money spent though.

Cheap? Then you're looking at low model count, with models costing higher points. WraithG are $12 (USA) a model, but that's $60 for 160 or 210 points in dudes. Bikes are going to cost you $41, for three bikes, 81 points, so for 19 more dollars you gain 80 to 130 points (d-scythes are the bees' knees!). The WraithKnight (Skathach) is a must. ebay will be your friend, and pretty much always get GW close-enough models and don't pay for higher FW prices.

In California, no one cares that any GW WraithKnight is not a FW Skath. I dunno how it is in the UK.
