You may be disappointed by the Lascannons on the Valkyries because of the BS3 and keeping the Hellstrike Missiles seems counterintuitive to the Lascannon plan because of Ordinance. I would be more inclined to put those 30 points toward Rocket Pods to help out against infantry.

I was under the impression that being ordinance didnt matter here, as flyers they can fire off up to 4 attack regardless of speed or type, no?

It's not that you can't fire the Lascannon and Hellstrikes in the same turn, the problem is that once you fire a single Ordinance weapon all of your other weapons must snap-shoot. So, on any given turn you can fire one Hellstrike at full BS, but then must snap-shoot with the Lascannon and second Hellstrike.

ahhhh, I gotcha. Totally forgot about that, it's been a while since I had occasion to play. My worry is that I am then relying on 6 meltas and the Vindy to deal with any heavy armor my opponent brings to the table, as opposed to 6 Hellstrikes, 3 Las, Vindy, and 6 Meltas.
The Taurox have Str 7 out the ass so are fairly well equipped to deal with transports and light armor, but if someone brings a superheavy there isnt going to be much I can do about it.

To be fair, Hellstrikes won't do anything against super heavies either. Against Knights, you're glancing on 5 and then they get their Ion Shield save. Furthermore, Hellstrikes are only AP3, so you don't get any bonuses on the damage table. Lascannons have better prospects, but the Valks are BS3, so you're missing half of the time. The best tools for Scions to deal with super heavies is either a Knight of your own or Vendettas. Unfortunately, the only way to get Vendettas is by allying Astra Militarum and GW FAQed Allied detachments in so far as your primary detachment guys can't start embarked in allied transports. These are some of the reasons why Tempestus are considered one of the least competitive factions. They just don't have the tools they need to deal with the variety of threats in the current meta. If they had core access to Vendettas and Vultures, it would improve their prospects.

Unfortunately, no. To my knowledge, there is a Valkyrie Flyer Wing in Death From the Skies, but not a Vendetta Flyer Wing. What you can do is include an Emperor's Spear Aerial Company from Mont'ka, which consists of three squadrons chosen from either Valkyries or Vendettas. You still face the same problem of not being able to deploy your Scions inside the Vendettas at the beginning of the game, because it is still considered an Allied formation, but it does give you Vendettas without taking Astra unit taxes.

I found a Vendetta wing as an option for the Elysians from IA3.

WHAT? That is amazing and I'm totally using it for my Scions. EPIC FIND. Elysian Vendettas are super cheap, too. 130 points I think. Total awesomeness.

Yeah reading more into it and Vendetta is apparently being moved to FW -who the feth knows why- so it's not "supported" in the updated DftS. But as a FW thingy it is still fully legal and good to go.

Yeah, GW is stupid about the Vendetta. You can take one in the Astra codex and the Emperor's Spear Aerial Company, but it's still considered a Forgeworld thing and the Valkyrie kit doesn't come with the bits to make it. Makes absolutely no sense. Forgeworld has released updated rules for its flyers to work with Death from the Skies, so unless your gaming club or a tournament doesn't allow Forgeworld, you're good to go.
