Again, list making but no testing on my end, not yet at least.
So, 200 pts, 0-2 Troops, 0-1 Elite, 0-1 Fast Attack. I was going to show some Loota love, but they don't make it past that hurdle. A lot of things I love Orks for are in that category as well, so I'm outside my experience on this one.
100pts) Warbuggies. Four of them, cookie cutter. 36" S5 AP5 Assault 3 Twin-linked? Dakka please.
100pts) Kommandos: Boss Nob, PK, BP
Just plop the Kommandos on OBJs at the beginning and hunker down, while the Warbuggies chew the fat at range.

Yeah, deffkoptas are also very good. I've also played against a list of lots of gretchen and just the sheer weight of bodies made sitting on objectives for the win a common thing... however, I will say that if you lose half the army, break tests will really devastate you. I like the warbuggy idea, but think you may just be better with deffkoptas and boyz in a trukk?

Deffkoptas are cool if you can get the 3+ cover save from turbo and jink. That also means shooting at snaps 90% of the time, which overall isn't that big of a deal for BS2 anyways. They probably will get destroyed in melee if they get stuck, and I can't improve their survivability in melee. Hit & Run isn't so nice on I2. I also prefer the AV10 over T5 because your oppenents have a lesser chance of glancing with a S5 weapon (5+) vs wounding (4+) (S5 just cause that's kind've average for a weapon I guess?). Not to mention they are 5pts more expensive.
I could mobs - Boyz and Gretchin (20ea) for a total of 40 units or just boyz (29x + a boss nob with big choppa and bp) and just roll weight of dice at them. Losses will be staggering. Stack the bodies high. Plus, I'd have a hard time with any vehicles.
I went with Kommandos for Stealth and surviving on OBJs.

Power klaw means assaulting at I1. Great against vehicles and you should have a pretty good success rate, but going toe to toe in CC he'll probably be dead before he gets a swing in. Either keep him out of CC and reserve him for popping vehicles and providing a slight leadership boost, or swap out the PK for a Big Choppa, S7 on the charge, you could still potentially kill vehicles, and you can spend the points on something else (tankbusta bombs/better gun?) not sure he will survive CC against MEQ because even assaulting at Initiative, he's still an Ork

What's worked well for me is what I call the 'Kill Team/Tide'
Troop 1) 20 Shoota Boyz
Troop 2) 10 Slugga & Choppa Boyz
30 Boyz in Kill team is hilarious and makes for crazy fun games.
Its always scored me top 3 at local Kill Team events and has even squeaked that coveted 1st place on occasion.
Try it out and keep on Krump'n.

I played a Kill team game with 5 Burnas and 12 shoota boyz. Burnas are great... not only do they have flamer templates (ignores cover, d3 HITS in overwatch), they are also power weapons if the assault lasts past the first round.
I got most of my kills however with the shoota boyz. I positioned a sacrificial ork so that it could get charged. When he died, the rest of the mob was able to destroy the Space Marine in shooting. They have a hard time making 3+ saves when there are 12+ shots coming into them.
Ork Kill teams, numbers are the key.

My buddies and I are about to dip our toes into Kill team, so I'm glad to see this topic!
My plan so far has been
4 tankbustas
1 boss nob
3 squig bombs
dedicated trukk
10x gretchin
runt herd
deffkopta
Comes to exactly 200pts. Might consider changing the kopta to a buggy, after reading a few posts here. Plan is basically to blast as many with bs3 grot shots as possible while firing rockets at anything tanky, with 2+ to hit squig bombs for anyone who gets too close to the trukk.
How exactly does Mob Rule work with Kill team? Does it make sense to take a BP?

Grot shots really only work if you focus fire a bunch of em on a thing, but since every model is an individual you might not be able to keep the dakka as concentrated especially if you split them up to cap OBJs. As every other codex has a bigger range than 12" I don't think they'll last long if they're our there playing IG.
I honestly don't know how a boss pole works in this ruleset. I figure everything that unit does that involves LD (Pinning, assaults results, break etc.) gets resolved on an individual model level, but if one guy in that unit has a BP they all get rerolls if they fail it. Which also means you might pass on a 2 or 3 but that one guy gets all the hits generated by the mob rule.

Right, but in the kill team book it says the models are all treated as a separate unit, so wouldn't only the model with the BP get the reroll?

I don't have a rulebook for KT, so if it says that I guess only the Nob would have the reroll. Which in itself isn't that bad, I'd hate for my leader to run away.

That's my read on it. Each model is its own unit, so the Boss Pole only affects the model carrying it.

That is correct. Every model is a separate unit. That goes for upgrades, shooting, CC, etc.

So is there any value in taking a BP? Doesn't really seem like it, but maybe if you had nothing else to spend extra points on...

I would say no. Mob Rule is one of those rules that is ignored for the purpose of Kill Team games.

Nope. It's why banners and icons don't work either. For all intents and purposes, whatever upgrade you put on a model applies to that single model since it's treated like a unit.
Extra points in KT are best spent on stuff like: more models, special weapons, more models, dedicated transports, more models, or power weapons.
