As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm fairly new to the game and my collection is very basic. I do prefer the Rebel ships, and I was wondering what currently comprises a competitive rebel list, so I know what ships to look at should I want to move torward tournament play...... You can assume that I'm pretty much starting from scratch since I currently have the basic starter set, an extra T-65 x-wing, a Y-wing and the Falcon......

Buying a pair of Ghosts is a pretty good starting point these days.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Well, how much does your budget allow you to buy is the real question.

Those 2 Ghosts that Peregrine suggested would probably be 2 weeks of purchases....maybe 3; any more than that on this game per week and my wife may shoot me, considering the number of 40k models I currently have collecting dust . I'm trying to plan out the purchases accordingly, but I know if I buy ships I actually like, the list is going to suck.

How's about you tell us which ships you really like?

I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want...

my pleasure.

....wow....I've been a sucker for X-Wings since I was 5 and, well, the game is called X-Wing so, left to my own devices I would probably buy 2 T-70s. I also like the A-Wings, so I would buy at least 2 of those and an E-Wing. I already have the Falcon, which is my favorite Sci-Fi ship of all time (and quite frankly, the ability to use it in a game like this is what sold me on starting the game). The Ghost would be way down the list, just buying the ships that I like.

The New 'core set', a T70 expansion and the Heroes of the Resistance pack (whenever its released) will give you three t70 xwing models, all the t70 pilots and a pretty good bundle of techupgrades and astromechs, including three copies of iintegrated Astromech. Not a bad start for a Force Awakens resistance squad.

Plus, shiny (battered) new (old) falcon, which with finn and rey together becomes one hell of a "head on pass" gunship.

Yeah, you could do a lot worse than T70s, trust me. If you'd have said the HWK-290, we'd have needed to have a sit down, but those are nice. They're not necessarily easy to use, but they are very rewarding when you pull it off. You have to forget having three ships with a gazillion actions each. But with three T70s, you can make a kick-butt list. (Are we allowed to say butt?)

The A-Wing... man I love the A-Wing. It doesn't look as aggressive as the squint, but for pure speed, it's great. Green Squad vets are good ships, and you can run them in squads or singletons. Jake Farrell is a great pilot, when properly built, and even the humble prototype pilot is a great blocker. I would buy the regular expansion pack and then Rebel Aces, if I were you. You'd have all the pilots, the necessary Chardaan Refit, as well as the A-Wing Test Pilot title. Tycho can also be a beast, and very friendly to new players since he almost ignores stress.

I'm waiting for the heroes of the resistance pack to come out... I've seen some YouTube videos of folks playing with the new falcon (rey/finn) and it looks very nice

Outflanking

I think that it is worth pointing out that there are a couple T-65 X-wing pilots which work well in a counter-meta list right now. Wes Janson is very useful for his ability to stop Jumpmasters from firing their torpedoes, and stripping stacked tokens off of Defenders/Aces. Biggs Darklighter is useful for forcing your opponent to either waste several rounds or several torpedoes to kill him (Especially with R4-D6).

For these guys, you need the Rebel Transport and original starter.

The Rebel Transport might not seem like an alluring purchase, because it is an Epic ship, but the T-65 pilots and *especially* the cool astromechs make it worth it.

Birlliantly insidious move for FF to put great cards in these epic ships, which would otherwise hold absolutely no value to me......I'm glad that the T-70s and A-wings can be good, I'll make that work. As far as the Falcon, buying another one just for different pilots will be WAY down the list since I already have it. I'm sure there has to be a way to make Han or Chewie work.

Oh, there is. Whilst other things have since turned up, "fat han" - a heavily upgraded han solo - dominated the game for some time.

Pair up Hans PS 9 and engine upgrade, and you can dodge arcs of fire as well as TIE interceptors, and with a 360 arc of fire don't have to worry about lining up shots youself.

C3PO is a very valuable crew card - essentially an action-free evade once per turn.

And you can find him as a solo card for a lot less than previsouly thanks to the last round of store championships.
