Hi all,
Okay after seeing the images for the new Plastic Legion Mk.III marines (which if I can I will buy a few boxes of the new HH set to get quite a few of them). I want to get into playing HH.
The issue I run into now is deciding on which legion should I get, and what minis should I get to go with it.

The three legions that I was looking at are....
Space Wolves - fluff and backstory, just don't know what kind of rules they'll get
Iron Warriors - love the siege mentality and of course Tyrants are just awesome.
Ultramarines - Rules, just not so sure how to make the blue look cool for me, then again I did like the blue on Raynor's raiders from StarCraft 2 (I know, I know some call StarCraft a copy of 40k, but I still like the game itself and mimicary is the highest form of flattery they say). top it off they also come with the "tyrants"

Which legion should I go with? (I like mechanized infantry tactics, and artillery is always fun) not so flier or assault marine heavy focus.
Which units should I start with (considering that I plan on ordering up multiple of the second Horus Heresy boxes for the Mk.iiis that I like a lot).

Thanks,
Dave

Infantry and artillery: Death Guard or Iron Warriors. Iron Hands would do well there too, for mech infantry/armor

Well, space wolves dont have rules yet, but I am sure that they will be an assault focuded army. Between the other two I recommend chose the army that you that you think that you could enjoy more painting.

Iron Warriors. Without a doubt.

Death Guard for lyfe. We've got amazing rules, great and fluffy use of artillery (and phosphex). Heavy support squads are troops, and amazing in both shooty and cc

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Of the three, it seems like Iron Warriors are the closest to what you're looking for. They really fit the mkIII aesthetic and would work with artillery or as an infantry based list.

Though I can't see them as a 40k-style mech army (10 man Squads in rhinos) I can totally see them as a horde-style mech army. 20 man tac squads in spartans with additional cc weapons pushing forwards, supported by squads in Land raiders...

For this to work, I'd go with Legion artillery (Medusa/basilisk), spartans and rappers. If you're looking for a cheaper start, then whirlwinds, land raiders and predators, or modify some plastic IG basilisks.

Iron Warriors, both their RoW are neat, but you should Ride the Ironfire.

Everyone loves that Ironfire and im just swinging the Olympian Hammer.
If you love artillery that is great but between Tyrants and Havocs Iron warriors arguably have the most cost effective Dakka in the game.

Iron Warriors are awesome. Their love for artillery is simply incredible. Also Ironfire all the way.

Hammer of Olympia is also pretty good with the extra HS Slot and free extra armor, plus shooting and disordered charges. But walking artillery barrages combined with the fact that they make you fearless in an era where that isn't overly abundant is good.

Aye i generally dont worry about it due to army wide stubborn from perty and army wide ld9 from golg to go with no panic due to shooting. makes a gunline Hammer of Olympia terrifying.

Honestly, I say narrow it down and then, especially if you want to play fluffy and thematic, pick one that will give you the most flexibility in fighting across the battles in the Heresy, rather than one that was mostly isolated or didn't really do much except the beginning/end of the Heresy. Not a big deal but for a fluff purist might be something to consider.
