I have a question for any of you are Dark Eldar lore buffs or 40k buffs. In Commoragh there is a place called Khaines Gate.
It is a gate that leads into the warp from the webway. So hears the question. Why was it built?

The Eldar don't use the warp for travel, and the only psykers in commoragh are the Harlequins. There is literally no point of it being there.
It would be akin to having an explosives warehouse in the middle of a wooden city.

Am I just missing something or is it just a plot device for some end times-esque event?

It was probably built way before the Fall when Eldar used much more psychic power so it would have some use then I imagine. It could have been where they planned to add to the Webway or something.

The thing is, that the pre-fall eldar didn't use the warp for anything other than psychic abilities, and the webway already spans the known galaxy.
That and the fact that the webway and the warb are two completely different dimensions and no mention has been made as to weather it increase psychic ability. If it does then it stands to reason that the dark eldar would want to destroy it because they don't want psykers in commoragh.

Well if they destroy it the gate turns into a hole. You don't want a big hole in your city.

They built cities in the Webway so it could be one of those.

Having read the fluff on it I think Khaines Gate is there to seal a breached portion of the webway where daemons have entered. The knocking, whispering, etc., started relatively recently. If that was direct access to the warp on the other side Slaanesh would have kicked it in long ago...and bye bye Commoragh.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

If built by pre fall eldar.

It might not be a easy gate to breach.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

It's most likely some sort of tear in reality that they built the gate to plug up, otherwise Daemons would be able to get into the webway. Something like the hole Magnus tore in the imperial palace, only instead of dealing with what pops out (which is more or less all the Custodes do by 40k times), they figured out a way to close it off.

This. There are about a bajillion and a half miscellaneous webway portals and tunnels connecting to various bits of Commorragh and its satelite realms. My understanding was that this was just some random gate that recently got a bad report from the chaos inspector. So now Vect has a ton of guards standing constantly poised to strike in front of the gate for when it eventually pops open. He's being secretive about the gate, and as a result, Malys and her harlequins are fighting Vect's harlequins in a shadow war that's probably doing more harm than good. Ironically, Malys probably doesn't particularly like the idea of a massive chaos breach inside the webway, what with Cegorach's heart beating in her chest., so Vect's lack of openness about the topic is probably just making things worse.

...Assuming that Cegorach doesn't like the idea of deposing a ruler who's causing the dark city to stagnate into a hedonism-friendly lifestyle, that is.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
