Subject: Psychic Shriek and a Hemlock's Mind shock pods.

I've heard people do this before, I'm trying to work out if its actualy allowed in the rules, I dont think it is.
So, A hemlock has mindshock pods, that means: "Enemy models within 12" of a model equiped with a mindshock pod subtract 2 from their leadership when takign morale, pinning and fear tests.
Psychic Shriek says: "Psychic Shriek is a withchfire power with a range of 18". Roll 3D6 and subtract the targets leadership - the targets unit suffers a number of wounds equal to the result. Armour and cover saves cannot be taken against wounds caused by psychic shriek"
So, it would seem to me that the intention is that the pods will reduce the leadership for shriek, as the hemlock is able to take telepathy, and I have seen people implement this before, however, as I read it, this is not the case. As no where does it state that shriek is morale, pinning or fear test. So, am I right in thinking it doesnt have any effect on shriek?

Yes it have zero effect on shriek.
The mindshock pods used to work along the Hemlock fixed psy power in 6th edition (terrify from telepathy) wich forces to perform a morale test.

I like to roll on sanctic with my hemlock. Really hoping to get vortex of doom or cleansing flame.

Interesting point here. I figured they would work but on closer inspection the mindshock pod doesn't automatically lower leadership at all times.

the things that work with it are the
-dark eldar's Armor of misery
-Homoculus coven's 'Freakish spectical rule'
-Harlequins Mask of Secrets
and a couple psychic spells floating around.
One other little tidbit on the Mask and the hemlock's trick. It only effects the models within the 12 inch bubble. Most leadership tests are based on the highest value in the unit. This means that unless the entire unit is within the bubble, it will generally have no effect on the unit. The Dark Eldar armor has a smaller range (6 inches) but effects full units.

Well you get shriek and then roll on runes of battle hoping to get the Embolden / Horrify.
Casting both Horrify and Shriek will give him a -3 on his leadership that works with Shriek and -5 on a leadership check in case he takes enough casualties.

That's some interesting failing of reading there as. it clearly doesn't work in combo with the Shriek as the power isn't any of the tests listed on the MIndshock, and like others have noted if it was meant to be a blanket LD reduction it would be worded like the Armor of Misery et al

You are the one who failed to understand his point.
Horrify (-3 LD) do works with shriek 3d6 vs LD and if the target suffer enough casualties (25% ), the following LD test will work with the Mindshock bonus with a -5.

That's true but the OP was stating that some players seem to think the -2 Ld on morale etc checks that the mindshock gives applys to the Ld value when comparing Ld to the result of the 3d6 roll from Shriek

I agree that the Mindshock Pods have no effect on Psychic Shriek.
