Hello,

I have a curious question for you - what would cause more chaos on the board - 2 Dragoons supported by 2 squads of Vanguards with 3 arc rifles, or 5 man squad of Infiltrators supported by 2 squads of bare Vanguards?
For the sake of argument let's assume that army in question has enough long ranged anti-tank, but could always do with some extra transport popping.

What do you think?

Drop pod vanguard with 3 plasma caliver or 3 arc rifle. That will give someone a bad day, especially pair with drop pod frag cannon/melta/grav/skyhammer/sternguard/centurion/other stuff...etc.

Personally I like arc rifle, no chance of melting your shiny tin men. But plasma does work wonder against nurgles/flyrants/daemons and MCs.

I prefer the dragoons myself but typically more than 2 in a unit to put pressure on my opponent. I avoid using drop pods as it's only a matter of time before that tactic is not possible so it's worth while to look at the future of ad mech lists. But if you don't mind using drop pods then it is a fine tactic while it's still usable.

Wasn't this eliminated by the FAQ?

Yessir.

Drop the vanguard and run 2 units of 4 dragoons. They're a wrecking ball that'll pop more than transports.

I believe it's a DRAFT FAQ and not everyone plays by the draft FAQ. I could be wrong but this is still a usable tactic until it's official; however, I would not use it as many tournaments don't allow it and soon it will be official so no sense using tactics that will be obsolete.
