so in my never ending search for necron warrior replacements (I dislike the models because of the legs) I was wondering what everyones take on human followers would be?
the crons have sentience and are not single minded killing machines any more. doesn't it seem feasible that a lord but take on followers?
the next part of the question is who would make cool followers? I have a ton of wargames factory great coat guys. I was thinking of using those but i'm not sure if I am 100% happy with those models either.
I also have buckets of eisenkern stormtroopers that I really like but I'm not sure what I can do with them to show a connection to the crons other than through paint. on top of that theres the whole not a gw model thing which isn't a big deal but is always kicking around in the back of my mind.
and since we're here I may as well ask if anyone has seen cool warrior or warrior leg conversions lately

Well, not sure if its fluffy now, but in the 3rd ed codex there was a bit of fluff referring to a bunch of human C'tan worshippers who fed souls to the C'tan.
Skitarri followers come to mind; their deal is that they see the necrons / C'tan as the true representives of the Machine God.
Lords were always sentient, even in the 3rd ed book. Its just they didn't show it, because why would they? Would you converse with a cockroach?

Why would a Necron lord care for Human followers? Would you take ants to be your followers? Humans are to Necrons what ants are to Humans. Insignificant creatures of which there are way too many and that are bloody everywhere. If ants infest your living place, you get rid of them. The only times you do not get rid of ants are if they live somewhere where it doesn't bother you or if they are somehow useful to you.
So yeah, unless the Humans have a clear use for a Necron lord that could not be provided by proper Necrons or unless the lord is insane (which is actually quite common for Necrons) I don't think it really works well fluffwise.
Necrons may no longer be single-minded killing machines, they are still really big on genocide. They are still killing machines. Just not single minded anymore.
It is just my opinion though. If you have an idea you think is awesome, don't let me stop you.

They do have a use - cannon fodder.
Why risk necrodermis when you have a mound of expendable meat?

Necron warriors already offer plenty of cannon fodder. It is not like Necrons have a shortage in manpower or anything. And using Humans would bring with all kinds of logistical difficulties. It does not make sense, it'd be a lot more trouble than a few expendable soldiers are worth.

Could be useful to subvert the ranks of their enemies.
They also have mindshackle scarabs so willing followers aren't necessary.

yeah, I was thinking cannon fodder manual labor.
I know the reclamation process is not 100% so don't they have to worry about casualties at some point?
I also seem to remember reading that not all lords are as arrogant as others so they may find expansion fulfilling

I think probably the most likely followers would be pawns.
How's this?
Necron Lord A wakes up from his slumber and discovers an Ad Mech exploratory expedition poking around in his crypts. Curious, more than anything, about what these little pests are he doesn't kill them instantly. He's just woken up from a 65 million year sleep, and the galaxy is a new and unknown place.
He recognises the mechanical aspects of the little cockroaches as unimaginably crude, but vaguely similar to his own situation. His curiosity gets the better of him, and he sets loose some mindshackle scarabs to put a leash on his new 'pets'.
Through the connection with their minds, he learns about the Ad Mech, and the Imperium, and how despite their crude technology they could bury his tomb world under a tide of pink squishy bodies.
So, he sends his new pets on an errand. The embark back on their ship and head back into the Imperium, covertly gathering intelligence for their new master.
It's like a person having a pet monkey

I can see an egyptian style cult praying and revenrencing the ruins of a lost Tomb world, like Stargate.

Human worlds have become subject worlds in some of the Necron empires IIRC from the most recent Codex.

There have been multiple instances of Necron worshipping/serving humans:
- Necrons use mutants for labour, and there is a Necron-worshipping cult in Dead Men Walking.
- The Necrons have human slaves in The World Engine.
- Medusa V: Endgame included rules for Necron-serving Renegade Techpriests and modified servitors.
- The Necron Threat was all about humans who worshipped Necrons as an embodiment of death.
- The 3rd edition of Codex: Necrons stated that the Deciever had human servants among the Adeptus Mechanicus (whether they know what they're serving is unclear) (pg.31).
- One of the Necron plot hooks from Codex: Witch Hunters featured proto-Pariahs.
- In the 5th edition Codex: Necrons, the human world of Aryand becomes a slave world of the Altymhor Dynasty (pg.25).
- Then of course you've got mindshackle scarabs which can be used to control living humans, or raise the dead (for example Imperial Armour 12: Fall of Orpheus and Cold Steel).
- The Diggas from Gorkamorka (Digganob) were heavily implied to be in league with the Necrons on Angelis in some form.
- Darvus serves his Necron captors semi-willingly in the collectors edition epilogue of Xenology.
- The Cult of the Dragon certainly serves/ served the Void Dragon.
- Non-human servants include the Silvae from the 3rd edition Codex: Necrons (pg.50), the suropod race from Forever Loyal, and Tyranids during the Medusa V campaign (week 8 Edethor update).

In The Lords of Borsis a Necron lord has human slaves and Imotekh has something like 500 alien worlds paying tribute to him.
