hello guys! I've been painting miniatures for about 2 years.
as I graduated highschool in my country, I became a commission painter for my FLGS and thankfully they and their clients are friendly enough for me to not getting any trouble
now I'm going to Perth to study in college and I want to do the same in here, but as i don't have any acquaintance in here i don't know how to start.
I don't know what's the standard here, hopefully it's bigger than my country
here's some of my work and the price for them
this is for around 70$ AUS (53$ US)

this is for around 8$ AUS each (3.8$ US)

is this alright for that price? or is this cheaper? more expensive?
also, how should i divide levels of paint quality and how to price them
i use Rp 50,000/hour (5$ AUS) to count the price but my clients usually confused with this so i'm thinking to make a levels like Den of Imagination, frontline gaming, and centerpiecesminiature
but sadly, i don't understand how they count the price
i appreciate any comment and guide here
thanks

Do what you did at home. Go to the local stores and clubs, chat, and find out who wants what for how much.

Prices per figure are easier to understand. Per hour, you could just be painting REALLY slowly....

Am guessing there could be a market for table top standard - and for "something special".

I suspect that $AU5 per hour will barely pay for the coffee while you work however.

Ask local - THEY are your market.

that's true for per hour method
as for the 5$/hour it's actually normal in my country (well your water bottle is 2$ while mine is 0.2$). That's why I'm quite surprised and wants to adapt with the price differences here
I will ask local. but, is there any good advertising method for this?
i'm totally newb in advertising myself, and i wish i can be better than directly say "i do commission"
thanks for the response.

OK. A bunch of assumptions coming. Handle sceptically.

Google wargames Perth Australia. Find out where the local stores and clubs are. Find out if the college you're at has a wargames club, and whether other local colleges do.

Go to these venues, with an army or two. Play some games. Chat. Ask your local gamers what they want. Bung some tabletop and some good figures on ebay, starting at AU$0.99 and see what they actually fetch. Get a cheap or free website, with good pictures of your work, and contact details. Set up a facebook page (check FB T&Cs) and a twitter account pointing to your FB page. Update regularly.

I'm assuming college is your first priority, with this as a means of offsetting some costs, and not a full time job. Use the college computers to run off some flyers with photos, and post them on student noticeboards at your college and others.

I'm also assuming you want minimum outlay. Therefore your advertising is your time - get out there - pound the ground and smile into the faces. Good luck!

wargames club is a thing? damn, i need to find that in my college at the first day!

I did go to some LGS such as GW store and played couples of games, some guys said that my army looks cool. (it's okay if i'm a little bit proud right i guess it's safe to assume that my painting at least passed the standard quality.

i want to try using ebay, but it's quite hard to sell something, so i want to do a trial run before i do the real thing (like the buyer is my relatives or something)

as for FB page, what should i post? i do have an instagram, and i only post my finished result of my work. should i do the same thing?

i'm not sure for a web, as some commission painter i found in the internet don't have website and they are quite popular. and sadly, i dont really understand how to run a website

true. i don't want to hinder my college just because i want to grab some money. i did see some commissioners put a flyer in some LGS. i will do that

thanks for the help stroller!! you really encourages me

Newcastle, OZ

Yeah, wargames clubs not in stores are a thing here in Oz.

Whilst we do have some that do meet up in stores, the majority echo the UK and NZ format of "not in a store".

There IS a gaming scene for Perth on FB, just doing a quick search found me a wargaming sales group and two clubs.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
