This is my dream 1850 list. So far I have nothing but a single unbuilt box of marines. So please any feedback is appreciated. I'm going for a Gladius Strike Force.

Demi Company 1

Captain with artificer armor, a storm shield, and the burning blade 180 points
Tactical squad with plasma gun and the sargent with a combi plas 95 points.
Tactical squad with plasma gun and the sargent with a combi plas 95 points.

Assault Squad with 2 flamers and the sargent has melta bombs 85 points

I plan on alpha striking with the dread my assault marines and one of the tac squads turn one to lay some hurt on the enemy. Then in later turns I drop the other marines on objectives. The devastators and razorbacks sit back in the back camping an objective while my flyer's do their thing.

For the Gladius I'm pretty sure you need an Auxillary formation to unlock the free transports. Don't have my codex with me right now but I'm almost positive. I would also recommend some Grav in this list to help deal with Gargantuans and the sort, 2 Grav cannons on each of the Dev Squads will be a little bit cheaper and be able to fire out of a rhino, they'll put out more shots and deal with most things a lot better than lascannons. Also dropping some of the combi weapons will let you take lascannons on the razorbacks if you want.

I would either swap the combi plasma and plasma for grav and combi grav on everyone or lascannons and melta bombs for those squads.

Storm Wing is a solid choice, much needed anti-air, didn't add up the points so I didn't realize you were short.

though outside the weapon choice of plasma vs grav (something I honestly can't figure out mathwise). The list itself is solid? I'm not even caring about the plasma or grav thing for a while as the melta squads are what I'll be using in low points games.

Right now at 500 I'm just running a chaplain two melta squads and the venerable dreadnaught all in droppods.

Meta wise I don't know the meta well enough. My friend who I'll be playing against at first plays necrons and nids.

Basic guys on foot is one of the places where plasma is actually competitive with grav.

I might try to scrape some points and get better guns for the talons. Skyhammers are my personal choice. Anything but the HBs is good.

Another option would be to pick a different aux choice. One problem with the full company gladius in general is that it’s starved for points.

It should do OK-ish. This list does take advantage of the current formation and mission types. And should play well in that environment. I bring this up because of the “collection goal” in the title. If/when we get a new codex or edition, this style of list might be obsolete overnight. Just something to keep in mind as your collection grows. Magnetization will help a bit to soften the blow, but you are investing in a ton of transports.

When I say collection goal I mean the battle company itself. Im wanting to paint up the 3rd company and be semi competive.
