I've been struggling with trying to find ways to make my Juggerlord Warlord work in my KDK army and it just doesn't seem like I can catch a break. If I give him Blood-forged Armor he doesn't feel killy enough, and if I give him Goredrinker he never lives long enough to make it into combat. I've been toying with the idea of a Deamon Prince Warlord instead but want to see what everyone else is running.
Note that I'm playing against mostly Necrons, Grey Knights, and Bugs. Most of the time my Juggerlord is a non-factor in the battle, with most of the heavy lifting being done by Hounds, Bikes, and Maulerfiends.

Don't take a DP of khorne, they cannot survive more than a turn. I don't play KDK, but when I play Khorne Daemons I always run a Jugger Herald in my hound pack with an axe of Khorne for some tasty Ap2 attacks. The Herald is cheap as chips (I know still 100+ points) and has lots of killing potential.
I am not a KDK so forgive these questions:
Do you have access to Locis? If so take the Hatred one.
Do you have access to the rewards that Daemons have? If, as I suspect, not then maybe you should come over to the Daemons codex and try a Murderhorde with Hatred Loci and Crimson Crown. Add in Karanak for rage and your command unit of 10+ hounds a Herald and Karanak with 6 attacks per hound on the charge at S5: very tasty.

KDK Heralds do not have access to demonic gifts or the axe of khorne, so they're really only Loci holders.
Deamon Princes in KDK get access to Blood-forged Armor, which gives EW and FNP along with the 3+ armor.
I'd rather not go full deamons because I'm too used to having Fearless instead of Instability.

Aah, but the formation I speak comes from the detachment where you can +1 and -1 to the warpstorm (which gives you about a 1/4 chance for +1 invul) and re-rolling daemonic instability (but to be honest you aren't going to lose a combat with these guys).

An Herald of Khorne on Juggernaut, with the locus of fury and the Blade of Endless Bloodshed in a pack of hounds can be extremely useful.
A Daemon Prince with the Bloodforged armour can be nice thought, but a BloodThirster would be better.

I haven't played around with Heralds much, maybe I'll start. A DP with Bloodforged and wings costs as much as an Unfettered Bloodthirster, true, but the model is way smaller and harder to shoot at most of the time.

You'd be surprised how easy DP's die.

Based on what you play against I think a Lord on juggar with Sigil, Lightning Claw and power fist may be the way to go. Join him to a 8-10 man unit of dogs and scout forward. Pick your target and attack. He's not a bloodthirster but he can do some damage with a fair amount of attacks and good weapons. Plus a unit of dogs to absorb wounds and a 4++. When's he's down to one wound simply summon him into a bloodthirster with 8 tithes he should be able to help generate

Pretty much this unless I'm feeling cheeky and wanna use the kor'lath sword to make two thirsters instead of bloodforged armour

The way i run KDK lord is fully decked and expensive.
4++, Axe of Ruin (the one that summons a thirster, Fist, Jugger.
It ends up >200 pt cause the Axe is 60 pts but on the other hand, it's 45 pt over a claw. Not too bad. Imo it's a crime to not use this relic. Well, at least to not try it. I've noticed that it's a good shooting deterrence if you hide the lord 1-st turn.

Reason a lot of people don't is because you have to make the choice between betting your juggerlord gonna die(thirster sword), which if your doing it this way you should run him bare without sigil and actually count on him dying to get the points back, if he's not dying Than take the sword away. The other option is bloodforged armour(can't take both cause they are both artefacts), this gives him ew, fnp, 3+ armour, stack on pf and lighting claw with a sigil for a 4++ and he becomes a challenge eating beast(this is most used when running him with hounds or in a cabalstar to eat challenges if psyker buffs don't go off).
Basically my rule of thumb is I use thirster sword at 1500 and under to really maximize the point boon of sacking lord yo blood tithe for a bloodthirster and getting 2(one for the tithe and the other for removing him from play so thirster sword activates same time). Higher than that, thirsters are generally shot down in a single round of shooting anyway so I'd prefer to maximize my lords survivability.

I run my Chaos Lord with Juggernaut, Axe of Khorne, Power Fist, Sigil, and Bloodforged Armor. Clocks in a 250 points, but he can murder almost anything in CC, especially if certain Blood Tithe buffs go off (like +1 attack). I've found Bloodthirsters to be basically a bullseye with wings, which makes me less likely to take the Kor'lath axe. In smaller games I'd definitely try it though.

I don't want the lord to die early on even with a thirster axe. In fact, the later he dies - the better. See, he's still not too hard to take down even with 4 wounds, 3+/4++ and t5. 4++ is optional ofc. But i prefer taking it.

It seems we are at an impasse of opinion here. I'm gonna duck out now before it turns into a nit picky type forum fight xD

Ah, relax, it was nowhere near that.
Anywayz, this works for me. Other people might find other options good. Maybe a bladde that adds BTP. Haven't tried it yet but sounds really interesting. Any results with it? Does the target need to be killed with this exact weapon or killing smth with a fist while holding a sword in another hand good enough to generate extra btp?

The main problem with the Blood Forged Armor is that you're 50 points for EW and FNP on a Lord.

I don't run KDK personally but one thing I've always thought that was pretty neat was taking a Khorne Lord on a bike/juggernaught and giving him that axe that turns him into a bloodthirster. Of course putting him in a small bike squad..
Thats literally a kamikaze unit and the khorne lord himself can wreck through a lot..and when he dies he can keep going in bloodthirster form..this and maybe taking another thirster as an HQ choice. Idk ive seen 3-4 thirsters by turn 3-4 and by that time it can get overwhelming. Sounds good on paper anyway haha!

The axe does not turn the lord into a thirster, the axe itself becomes a thirster when the lord model is removed as a casualty (either by becoming a thirster himself or death).
A lord isn't going to wreck through a lot with just the axe, and planning to die holding it is a waste of points. The only proper use is to turn him into a thirster and get an additional thrister from the axe, which means hiding him in a corner or in ruins until the time comes for him to pop. This is an even worse strat in a CAD where you aren't getting a guaranteed blood tithe per turn like in the blood host detachment. As others have pointed out: thirsters are bullet magnets and will die under the current meta's weight of fire before they can charge.

I have found that pure KDK lists get shot off the table by Tau or Eldar before they can charge. 5+ Daemon saves are just not good enough, and you won't have your FnP buff up until turn 2 at the earliest. It's really the problem of assault armies not being that great currently. My next plan for KDK is to ally in a Cyclopian Cabal and a KDK CAD, possibly with a Gorepack if points allow. Makes a nifty little deathstar that is almost, but not quite, as good as SuperFriends.
