Hi All,

Today we will be looking at how do you take ground as the IG and how to reliably claim Linebreaker.

Warhammer 40k Tactics: Competitive HQ Choices
I continue to dig down into this idea of the Competitive Guard, focusing on the fine details of the HQ choices.

Been really enjoying these, thanks for doing them!

I noticed that you dont seem very keen on flyers. Most people tend to take vultures or vendettas with platoon squads stuck in them, with the double benefit of a relatively easy line breaker. Could you expand at all on why you shun them? Also what do you do against enemy flyer spam, just prescience autocannon blobs and hope for 6's?

Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it

There are a number of reasons I don't use IG flyers. Firstly I am a foot guard player and I just love taking as many bodies as possible! When using my foot guard I never leave home with less that 200 bodies and I normally rock 250 infantry in a 1850 game Secondly, IG flyers are really expensive. When it used to be 130 points for a Vendetta or 100 for a valkyrie I would always run a pair of 'dettas with melta vets in the back. But now at 170 and with less transport capacity I dont bother. Putting a PCS in the back means less orders for my grunts on the ground too. However, with IG flyers now getting "Attack Flyer" status, I think they might be worth running again. I primarily used my 'dettas for tank hunting so having +1 to hit ground targets is really good! It actually makes stock Valkyries worth it as you are now likely to hit with both missiles.

I don't often play against flyers. The competative meta around me favours hard hitting death stars and flyers are generally considered not worth it as they cannot alpha strike due to the fact they come in on turn 2. When I do play them I normally focus on the ground game and ignore the flyers. I have played many many games where by the end of the game I have tabled or nearly tabled my opponent and all that is left is a lonely flyer or 2 taking pot shots at a 100+ Guardsmen. If I need to shoot at them I will just Prescience and hope. Dont forget most flyers are armour 10-11 so even GLs can take hull points off. with 3-4 blobs shooting into the sky with 12-16 heavy weapons and 12-16 special weapons a turn, I normally destroy one flyer and make 1-2 others Jink (which basically gets rid of there shooting for a turn).

Sorry to bring up a past thread.

On games based on kill points, I always took Nork as my warlord. It made it harder to Instant Kill him (with T5) and deny my opponent First Blood or at least make him work harder for that point. But I would say that is situational and not an auto include.

I will say your videos have definitely opened my perspective on how to play my AM more differently. Look forward to your videos and comments.

I also think using Stormtroopers/Scions are a good way to get line breaker as well.
