I... actually don't know. Help?

So my local gaming club is having a 2v2 tournament in 20 days, and I got paired up with a CSM player. I don't know anything about what our opponents will bring.

We can take 1000 points each. He's got more shooty stuff, such as a Land Raider, Terminators and a Heldrake. I've got more assault oriented things, including a Thunderstar and Grey hunters in a transport.
Any ideas on what we should bring?

Does he have any Obliterators or more Heldrakes?

If he wants Terminators, go all out for Termicide. The opponent is going to have to choose between your TWC and his Terminators. It would work fairly well.

Obliterator formation, and that maulerfiend/forgefriend formation sound amazing from traitors hate...his sorcerers are fantastic as well as a support unit.

SW have to take care of assault, theyre one of the best so I'd for sure take thunderwolves covered by the CSM fire support. Little cultists/grey hunters for objectives sounds good too

Terminators don't come in until Turn2 at the earliest. So they will focus TWC than Termiciders. Not sure how effective that would be - for that particular strategy. However, CSM don't have many competitive models to begin with so this might be your best bet. CD on the other hand with CSM unlock a lot of goodies - but that is neither here nor there.

Heldrakes and Obliterators are easily the best in the codex. I'd even argue getting a Chaos Unmarked Sorceror with Spell Familar and Jump Pack. Upgrade til ML3 and roll aggressively for Shifting Worldscape (Worldwithe). That gives the Oblits a chance to swing their power fists basically anywhere you want (with a reroll to charge from the Jumppack). Also, since you aren't targetting the TWC, you can ShiftingW the terrain the SW star is on and give your doubles partner a free assault vehicle (in the form of a piece of terrain).

If formations are legal, look into the Heralds of the Great Wolf from the Curse of the Wulfen book. Iron Priest, Wolf Priest, and Rune Priest as 1 unit with a BOAT TON of special rules and Turn1 manipulation. It's easily the best thing in that book (in contestation with Paradox). That and you run a detachment of Company of the Great Wolf (1-6 HQs, 2-8 Elites) and you attach all the Lords/Battle Leaders/Iron Priests to the 3 Heralds (from the formation). Obviously this require a large amount of TWC ICs and a few bikers (Rune Priest/Wolf Priest). Also taking a Jump Pack on the Wolf Priest is my personal preference for the rerolls to assault ranges - since you have to lost Fleet when you have bikes in the unit.

I'm running a Doubles List with my friend this Friday coming up and we are running Daemons/SW/Ultramarines (ITC format). My star is Heralds with Ultra Conclave for all the psychic shenanigans. Unfortunately, Shifting Wolfscape is banned in ITC format, but I like the list regardless!

I'm assuming the Heralds formation can't join a unit of TWC? It looks cool though, them plus a few WGBL on Thunderwolves and a Wolf Priest on Bike... yeah I'll take it

The Heralds are 3 models that have to be a unit of 3. They can be joined by other ICs, but they can't attached to another unit.

Personally I build a unit of TWC (Fast attack) with all of them rocking Powerfists/Stormshields. So I have 4 TWC that are count-as Wolf Lords/Battle Leaders - as well as - an actual Battle Leader with the same tech and 4 Iron Priests. I like myself some TWC ICs! hahaha

I could do a Thunderstar with Wolf and Rune Priests on bikes, an Iron Priest on Wolf, accompanied by several WGBL's on wolves...

Now we're talking! Haha.

This is my play-style, but I don't make friends! I usually roll my Rune Priests on Biomancy. Almost everything in that discipline is good except Hemorrhage. If you can/want to, I equip my solo Rune Priest with a Runic Staff for S9 Iron Arm with AP2. The rest of the squad has S10 AP1/AP2 so if he doesn't get Iron Arm striking at S6 AP4 @ I4 isn't too shabby. I just like S9 and T8 in challenges with 2+/6++ (ignore the first failed save), 6+ FNP. If they have AP2 in the challenge you'll throw in 1 of your Battle Leader with a SS. Obviously, the best roll is Endurance for EW and 4+ FNP for the entire squad.

Trust me, I don't want to make friends in this tournament! I know at least 4 players who will give it all, and no one will give anyone mercy. It'll be abloodbath and I want to at least come to quarterfinals. (8 teams, 16 players)

I made a quick list, and the Heralds formation + a WGBL with claws cost 500 points, leaving me with just enough points to squeeze in a Dread, a Servitor (to fill out an elite slot for the detachment) and 2 Long Fang squads with ML and HB, oneof which is in a TL Lascannon Razorback.

The unofficial GW FAQ allows you to use White Dwarfs - whichs unlocks elite Iron Priests. Servitors and Dreads are bleh. Of course this leads to more points in the same star, but that's the advantage of the Heralds formation imo. Just some food for thought! You can also include more Rune Priests via HQ slots of the Great Wolf Company (up to 6 I believe).
