Hello Dakka,

I'm a CG Artist on a quest to make a gakload of 40k wallpapers. I hope this is the right place to post and get help and suggestions!

Space Marines IX - Imperial Fists
Spoiler:

Space Marines VIII - Hellfire Crusade
Spoiler:

Space Marines VII - Imperial Ceremony
Spoiler:

Space Marines VI - Blizzard
Spoiler:

Space Marines V - Blood Ravens
Spoiler:

Space Marines IV - Frank Miller
Spoiler:

Space Marines III - Saving Private Ryan
Spoiler:

Space Marines II - Dustcloud
Spoiler:

Space Marines I - Trying out rendering
Spoiler:

on a order from newest to oldest. Obviously the first one is very basic. The cool thing about 3D is that you can keep adding onto the model and make it more
detailed over time. As I'm experimenting with renders I'm planning to make the wallpapers more epic in scale and action as I go.
Any suggestions for what you'd like to see?

You can also see all the wallpapers over here. On arstation I also upload the greyscale version and a 3D ambient render.

Very cool!

It seems they may be missing a bit of texture and iconography but that can very well just be my eye!

Yes you're very right! I'm still in the process of adding more detail and shoulder icons. Would love to hear suggestions for chapters you'd like to see!

Obviously space wolves

But really any chapters would look very good, especially if you made a blood angel assault marine with all the iconography and the such.

Thank you. I'm trying to find ways to get rid of the obvious CG look so it's nice to hear that.
More wallpapers to come!

These are great. I particularly like the Frank Miller and Saving Private Ryan ones.

Man, I would pay some good money for a good 40k graphic novel in that Frank Miller style. Excellent interpretation.

Help me, Rhonda. HA!

That's a great compliment. Making an entire graphic novel would take a very long time. Having a little bit of support would give much options.
In the meantime I'll keep making more wallpaper fan-art

Very cool indeed, I don't usually like CG work, but these are great.
As said, those blank shoulders need something though!

Great work but, this has nothing to do with painting and modeling.

I asked where to make my thread and It was suggested here. What would be a better place?

I love these!

The personalization done to the marines really make them stand out.

I personally love the Black Templar one and the second Blood Raven one, but the newest fist one is awesome too!

Am I allowed to use these as backgrounds?

I think they're pretty neat. Several of them definitely smack too heavily of CGI, but that is what it is.

Some minor suggestions I'd make are more based in reality.

-While in formation or marching it's unlikely a Space Marine would have his finger on the trigger of his boltgun.

-I don't know that the guy leading the Imperial Fists out of the fortress would have his power sword on (I assume there is an on/off switch). While it looks neat, it's a little odd.

-In one of your pictures where the marines are firing you have a muzzle flash coming from the very tip of the muzzle of the bolter. It's showing a muzzle-brake flash pattern, but the sides of the muzzle brake are empty. On a firearm, the muzzle brake is designed to "brake" gasses and pressure out various holes/vents to help stabilize the rifle. The "flash" pattern you see is the result of this brake ---- so the flash should be coming out of the side of the brake and the front of the muzzle.

-You have some scenes where shell casings are flying through the air with no one firing (I suppose he may have just let off the trigger but it looks odd).

While it's all silly science fiction, you could use some help in the "accuracy" of the firearms manipulation, etc.

Most definitely, That's why I make them!
If you like them and want to support me a bit you can do so by Patreon.
It allows me to keep spending time on them and make them cooler and at a faster rate.

Thank you

You're right! Thing is, this is exactly why I need people like you to point these things out. Even though I love 40k I still make mistakes in lore and insignias all the time.
However you're the first one to point out about the muzzle flash. Will prevent me from making the same mistakes in the future so I'm very thankful!
The finger on the trigger will make a very subtle difference that I think is gonna be cool.

Thank you
