I was playing gray knights in 6th once vs Necrons and I was barely putting a dent into him but I did manage to scrape a few wounds off his destroyer lord. My stormraven had come in and he almost downed it with his Croissants one HP left. Then In my psychic phase I tryed to use sanctuary to give it a save and periled thinking it was all over I rolled to see what it was and got the deadly 6. I then proceeded to pass my ld and not only take down his flyer but with power of the machine spirit used the twin linked las to take out his walker as well with an explodes result. The flyer then crashed into his warlord unit killing his warlord and most of the unit. Flukiest thing I ever saw

CSM vs Necrons A single nurgle Spawn assaulted a unit of 20 Necron Warriors and an Overlord (enemy warlord). The Necrons failed the fear test and lost 1 Warrior, my Spawn got no dmg (not even the Overlord could wound it) followed by the failing of their morale check and being overran by a single spawn.

Ig vs Nids: The enemies hive tyrant charge my junior officier squad. The squad is quickly wiped out but the officer survives and manages to wound the hive tyrant. He then flees and just outrolls the initiativ check. Problem is he's running through terrain so doesn't get very far. In his next turn he fails to rally but is just in range with his plasmapistol. He shots, hits, wounds and slays the beast.
After this he rallies and holds a crater next to the diseased hive tyrant alone for the rest of the game.
Bravest damn thing I ever saw in 40k. This man shall forever keep his plasmapistol and powersword.
Edit: he now also have a Tyranid warrior head on his base, contributed by the opponent of said game.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary. |

Playing as Biel Tan Eldar vs Ultramarines. Marneus Calgar drops down into my lines, alongside his terminators, shrugging off fire like there is no tomorrow. Suddenly, the Dire Avengers scatter, as a marauding Avatar of Khaine surges through into the squad. Foolishly, Calgar accepts the challenge, confident from his previous victories. It was not to be, the Avatar scything him and his terminators down in a within two turns, being brought down to one wound himself.
Felt good to avenge Khaine in that moment.

The most brutal Warlord demise I've seen was when I was carrying my Warlord Titan from my undercoating table back to the workbench, and I dropped it.
When it hit the ground it hurt like it was me falling.
But it was fixable thankfully.

Ouch, I probably would have cried if that happened to me.

My tank commander faced down a Iron armed, Enduranced and invuned up Sevrin Loth. She was all I had left, Sevrin all he had left. Sevrin charged, and failed by 1". My tank commander retreated 6" and scored a direct hit, he failed his save and dropped to one wound. In desperation I snapfired my hull Heavy Bolter... One hit... One wound.... HE FAILS HIS SAVE!
That battle was amazingly intense.
A game against the Timmy. Timmy's Warlord is the Primarch Perturabo. Perturabo de-busses from the Tormentor in direct view of my Macro Cannon. Tormentor was facing the other way.
Boom.

I was playing against necrons once, turn two I deepstruck a lonewolf into his lines.
The lonewolf then proceeded to weather ~90 necron gauss shots from all the warriors, and then punched the necron chariot overlord's face in.
Pretty cool game

5th ed, Tyranids vs Ultramarines.
Calgar had just chewed through a Trygon and a Trygon Prime at the cost of his bodyguard squad. I had a third, wounded Trygon left and had to get in 3 wounds on Calgar somehow. I shoot a 5 man termagant squad at him to see if I can get an extra wound in. I put 3 wounds on Calgar, he rolls 3 ones.

Remember friends, slap on some glue and a decent paintjob and your unfortunate clumsiness damage becomes heroic battle damage!

For the record, I am also no longer convinced of the luck in the term 'break a leg'. That and 'break an ardex-defensor lascannon' are now in my list of very unlucky terms.

Okay, fine, my example was cheating. The real most epic Warlord kill was when I played a 30k match, Primarch's Chosen vs Primarch's Chosen. At turn 3 Corax and his Dark Furies got into melee with my Lorgar and his Terminator retinue. Corax shockingly opens with killing Lorgar while the Dark Furies kill a couple of Terminators; in revenge the Terminators bring their fists onto Corax and as he has only a 5++ he is promptly smacked silly. With both Primarchs dead the battle ended in an automatic draw at turn 3.

6th ed, Kharn v Calgar. Kharn on the charge but only had one wound left. Took a couple of wounds off Calgar with his round but then got hit back 3 times. Rolled 2 5s and a 6 on the invulnerable save though and then killed Calgar in my opponents phase when he failed all his invulnerables!

Warlords weren't a thing yet since this was 5th edition, but my mom's Honor Guard had been wrecking my face for months, just strolling across the table calmly and then killing one unit after another.
Then the first of the SoB WD Codex halves were released. The statline of the Death-Cult Assassin and Uriah Jacobus' rules had me excited at having a tool to wipe out those Honor Guard for once. I cackled to my mom for the next few weeks as we waited for the second WD issue to come out, telling her how doomed her Honor Guard were. She calmly disregarded my excitement, knowing how terrible Sisters of Battle were at melee and that my over-reaction would prove fruitless.
Finally the second half arrived, I arranged a game post-haste, and the first melee combat my Uriah-Bomb ever saw was a massive multi-combat in the middle of the map involving a Chapter Master, his 8-strong Honor Guard unit and a 10-strong Tactical Squad against my Battle Conclave, Uriah Jacobus, and a big squad of Repentia. The Death-Cult Assassins went first of course, dice were rolled, and my mom's jaw dropped as her entire Honor Guard unit were butchered without ever getting to strike a single blow. The Tactical Squad attacked the Repentia, killed a couple. The Repentia's retaliation erased the Tactical Squad from the face of the planet. Jacobus failed to do much damage, and the Chapter Master killed a Crusader.
The Chapter Master failed his morale test, and for the first time ever, we had to see what ATSKNF actually did. At the time, it meant that instead of falling back and possibly being overrun to death, he took No Retreat! wounds equal to the number his side had lost the combat by. He failed three armor saves and also bit the dust.
The butchery in that melee was so brutal that ever since, any time I have ever fielded a Battle Conclave, it has never reached combat. My mom aims every single ranged weapon in LoS and Range at them until they are completely wiped out.

Death Cult assassins are only AP3 now so honour guard should deal with them nicely.

Yes, I am aware of the changes to power weapons that have happened since then.
My mom changed her army to Orks though, so that I could ally the Marines with my Sisters once 6th made Allies an official part of the rules. She actually really likes playing the Orks since they are very, very straightforward to use. As a result, Death-Cult Assassins are rather useless to me, so I have modified some plastic Witch Elves into female Arco-Flagellants.

A couple of friends got together last December to battle it out on our buddy's Christmas Village.
It consisted of 2 board sections, one on the dining table, one on the mantle and all units had the ability to deepstrike between them at will.
The main objective was to kill Orky-Clause (claws?) who was a MC/Primarch level IC that had S8 T8, 2++, FNP 4+, IWND and 10 wounds and super killy weapons. We were also free to kill eachothers units as well.
Armies were 1K each, I was playing wolves, my one buddy was playing scars super-friends and another was playing UM+ super- friends. We were all loaded with kitted ICs, special characters etc.
After looking at my buddies lists I was like "Ok well I can't do much agasint Orky Clause, but I can mess with them" so I set about beating on their guys with Arjac Rockfist, Terminators, Twolves etc. getting mauled pretty bad by both of them because I'm not nearly as cheesed out as they are (admittedly we agreed to play the cheesiest lists we could, I was just kneecapped by not having the Wulfen book or models at that time).
We get to Turn 3 or 4 and half of my buddies' IC's have been killed trying to bring Orky-Clause down. All of the sudden he ends up teleporting within 10" of the last bit of my force.
Enter Lucas the Trickster. I get into assault with him and issue a challenge, my buddy who hasn't read his rules scoffs, being mildly surprised when Lucas manages to do a wound to him, but predictably gets crushed in close combat. Then I tell him to roll a die, he asks why, I tell him "just do it" and my other buddy suddenly realizes what's happening. He ends up rolling a 1 and I roll a 6, removing Orky-Clause from play. I had a good laugh at that one.
