So basically I stopped playing 40k before the first extra book for CSM came out (the black legion one I think?) and I'm kinda lost about how to use the books.
I've done some researching but I don't really wanna have to buy all 3 books just to get some ideas.
Basically I just wanted to know if I could post an average list that I run and yall could tell me which formation is the best to use.
HQ - nurgle lord on bike with claws nurgle daemon prince with wings, ml 3 and black mace (either or both depending on points)
Troops - some number of 5-7 plague marines in rhinos. -cultists.
Fast attack - heldrakes and some nurgle spawn if I'm running a bike lord.
Heavy support - lots of obliterators.
Usually play between 1750-2500 points.
As you can tell, I'm a fan of nurgle because I love to convert nurgle models.
Any suggestions on what book/formations to look into would be greatly appreciated!

The list is very solid, the sons of papa Nurgle never suffered as bad as other chaos, but you need more plague marines, maybe go for only 1 HQ, and about formations...
The purge (imperial armour 7)
or...
no, nothing else comes to mind.
The heldrake is auto include and make the daemon prince roll a spell or two on divination for 2 plus rollable jink madness!

"Beyond that opening are my enemies. Behind me are warriors who would happily turn their weapons on me if they thought they could get away with it. Do you really think I'm doing this to try and impress anyone? I know who I am, and I don't give a greenskin's fart what anyone thinks of me."

There's an obliterator formation in the Black Crusade book that requires a warpsmith and three (to five?) units of oblits which allows the warpsmith to choose one unit of obliterators (within range) and they can then shoot twice that turn (with different weapons). Not bad.

I'm assuming you're unsure about all three supplements, eg. black legion, crimson slaughter and traitor's hate.
Traitor's hate has the csm equivalent of a decurion. That doesn't quite match your list.
It does have a core of cultists plus a dark apostle, so that might work. They work well with typhus too. They respawn on a 4+.
The other option would be a chaos warband, but that requires a bunch of units you didn't mention.

Alternatively, Traitor's hate has a warpsmith/obliterator formation and a heldrake formation. It also allows for infinite spawn if you take the decurion.

Black Legion and Crimson slaughter don't really offer anything that matches your units.
Crimson Slaughter formations all require possessed and black legion is more of a mix but nothing really nurgly either.

And just for completeness, forgeworld has a nurgle specific detachment that would work pretty well with your units.
It doesn't have room for heldrakes, but you could use the traitor's hate formation to add drakes, though you'd need at least 2.

How would a CSM daemon prince roll on divination?
